As a huge fan of truly smart thrillers, I’m so excited to hear that the show everyone’s been talking about – the one that followed up that incredible, critically acclaimed horror film – is coming back! It’s a brilliant take on the serial killer genre, and I’ve been waiting for more.
Serial killer movies and shows usually follow a predictable pattern. They often start with a key murder that becomes the killer’s signature. Then, the story focuses either on why the killer commits these crimes, or on how the police gradually figure out who they are.
Many crime shows alternate between following the criminal and the detectives trying to solve the case. But occasionally, a series about a serial killer will try something new. This show does just that, offering a fresh perspective within the horror genre.
The Creep Tapes Is An Incredible Follow-Up To The Highly Acclaimed Creep Movies
Many found-footage horror films aim to pull you into the story and frighten you with sudden scares and surprises. But the Creep movies, created by Patrick Bryce and Mark Duplass, are different – they really stand out because of how surprisingly personal and close-up they feel.
Similar to the Creep films, The Creep Tapes is a simple found footage series that avoids big special effects or supernatural tricks. Instead, it creates scares by focusing on personal connections. The series portrays its central killer in a surprisingly human way, making it easy to trust him – which is what makes it so frightening.
Each episode of the series focuses on new targets, and it’s clear how their stories will tragically end. However, the show also makes you understand why these people were vulnerable to the killer and couldn’t escape. Essentially, both the Creep TV series and the original movies explore our basic human need to feel connected and obligated to others.
What really struck me about this movie is how it captures that awful feeling when you know something’s off, but you just go along with it anyway, wanting to avoid conflict. It’s so relatable! And Mark Duplass? He’s incredible as the villain. He doesn’t play him as some monster, but as someone disturbingly…normal, which makes the whole thing even creepier and more unsettling.
The Creep Tapes Season 2 Is Expected To Be Even Better Than Its Predecessor
While initial reactions to The Creep Tapes after its first season were somewhat mixed, it still received a solid 77% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The show is coming back for a second season on Shudder on November 14, 2025, and many expect it to be even stronger than before.
Similar to the first season, the new episodes will each focus on a different snuff film from the killer’s collection. But this season appears even stronger, thanks to the addition of well-known horror actors like David Dastmalchian, Robert Longstreet, and Katie Aselton.
