The iconic AT-AT walkers from Star Wars just got a major power-up. These massive machines, first seen in The Empire Strikes Back during the Battle of Hoth, are already a fearsome symbol of the Empire, but a recent development makes them even more dangerous.
The latest installment of Star Wars: Visions, Volume 3, is now available on Disney+. It features a fresh set of animated stories that aren’t part of the official Star Wars timeline, created by different animation studios. One standout is “The Song of Four Wings” from Project Studio Q, which introduces some of the most impressive and fearsome AT-ATs in Star Wars history.
Star Wars Just Gave The Imperial AT-AT Walker A Devastating Upgrade
I just finished watching “The Song of Four Wings” in Star Wars: Visions Vol. 3, and it was amazing! It’s about a princess who’s become a rebel, and she’s on a mission to save this little kid who’s strong with the Force. But she runs into trouble when she discovers an Imperial mining operation along the way.
Even with a droid that transforms into a powerful X-Wing-like mech, this Rebel fighter is up against overwhelming Imperial forces. Two massive AT-AT walkers suddenly break through the ice and start blasting away.
One of the walkers also showed off a powerful new ability, suddenly opening hidden gun ports on its back and firing a barrage of seismic charges – a destructive weapon known from the ships used by Jango and Boba Fett.
The Rebel princess succeeds for the day, destroying both walkers and the Empire’s mining crawler. However, the new AT-ATs were truly impressive and a definite highlight of this recent Star Wars Visions collection.
Overall, AT-ATs Are Having A Major Moment In 2025
AT-ATs have been featured prominently this year. A key moment showcasing Din Djarin sabotaging a walker convoy was revealed as exclusive footage for the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie at Star Wars Celebration 2025, and the first trailer included even more scenes of these walkers during the New Republic era.
The first episode of Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 introduced AT-ATs that had been repurposed as a gambling hall within the story of the Sith Ronin.
As a long-time Star Wars fan and movie critic, I have to say it’s fantastic to see the AT-AT still capturing imaginations after all these years! Even LEGO recognizes its iconic status, releasing a fun Gingerbread version this holiday season. Honestly, it really highlights how enduringly popular this impressive Imperial vehicle remains – forty-five years after it first lumbered onto the screen, it’s still a fan favorite.
