Colin Farrell is known for his charisma, and meeting him would be a highlight for many. However, Tom Cruise isn’t most people. While promoting his film, Farrell shared a funny story on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert about showing up to the set of Minority Report while still drunk. He’d asked for the day off for his birthday, but the production didn’t accommodate him. Farrell explained he’d been out celebrating the night before. He recalled going to bed and immediately receiving a call from the driver at 6:10 AM, realizing he was in trouble. Unsurprisingly, he was hungover. His solution? He asked the crew for six Pacifico beers and a pack of 20 Marlboro cigarettes.
Colin Farrell struggled with a single line while filming Minority Report. He played an agent reviewing Tom Cruise’s character’s “Precrime” unit, but a bad hangover made delivering the line – “I’m sure you’ve all grasped the fundamental paradox of precrime methodology” – incredibly difficult. He needed 46 takes to get it right, which frustrated Cruise. Despite the struggle, critics at Variety praised Farrell’s “outstanding” performance, calling him a remarkably talented actor. It was simply his way of working.
