Critics are giving Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake very positive reviews, currently holding an 85 Metascore on Metacritic. This release finishes Square Enix’s remake of the classic Erdrick Trilogy. If you’re new to these remakes, it’s recommended to play last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake first, as its story takes place earlier in the timeline. And right now, you can find Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake on sale for $20 off at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Target.

The Dragon Quest HD-2D Remakes – all three of them – boast stunning pixel art, completely remastered soundtracks, improved gameplay, and extra content for players to enjoy.

I’m a huge Dragon Quest fan, and it’s cool how Dragon Quest III actually tells a story that happens before the original Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II. Together, those three games are often called the “Erdrick Trilogy.” It’s rare for the Dragon Quest games to have such direct story connections, but even though III is a prequel, the games are set hundreds of years apart, so you don’t need to play it first. It’s funny, because the first version of Dragon Quest III actually came out after the first two games!

Good news for Dragon Quest fans! The classic game, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, will be released on February 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. You can pre-order it now for $60 on Amazon.

Dragon Quest Game Deals

Another option is the action RPG Dragon Quest Treasures, also priced at $35.

  • Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake (Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X) — $40 ($60)

  • Dragon Quest Treasures (Switch) — $35.60 ($40)
