The forthcoming Clayface movie has received an exciting production update.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. are making a horror movie called Clayface, scheduled for release in 2026. It’s part of the new DC Universe being developed by James Gunn and Peter Safran, and will be directed by James Watkins. Tom Rhys Harries will play the role of Clayface, the iconic Batman villain.
What is the latest Clayface update?
Filming for the DCU movie featuring Clayface is wrapping up this week, according to Rhys Harries’ recent Instagram post. Production began in late August 2025, and the project is expected to be fully completed in the next few days.

The upcoming film, described as a scary and disturbing thriller, will follow a struggling actor known for low-budget horror movies. He resorts to injecting himself with an experimental substance in a desperate attempt to revive his career. The story is based on a DC Comics character – created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane – who has the power to change his shape.
Clayface is a frequent enemy of Batman in DC Comics, sparking rumors about whether Batman will appear in the new DC Universe film. While there’s been no official confirmation or casting announcement, some clues – like a building labeled “Wayne Community Center” spotted in set photos – suggest Batman will play a role in the movie.
Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini wrote the screenplay for the Clayface movie. Director James Watkins has previously directed films like Eden Lake (2008), The Woman in Black (2012), Bastille Day (2016), and Speak No Evil (2024). He also worked as a second unit director on The Descent Part 2 (2009).
Warner Bros. Pictures will release Clayface in U.S. cinemas on September 11, 2026.
