The White House movie theater, a piece of history built by President Roosevelt in 1942, has been torn down. This demolition is part of a $300 million renovation project spearheaded by President Trump. For decades, the 42-seat theater—originally a cloakroom—showed films to presidents and their families, from Bill Clinton enjoying Groundhog Day to Donald Trump watching The Joker. President Carter was the biggest movie buff of all, reportedly viewing 480 films during his time in office – he would have been a huge fan of the movie tracking app, Letterboxd!
Just because the White House is getting rid of its old movie theater doesn’t mean movies are gone for good – everyone has phones, after all! According to a report, the East Wing is undergoing renovations, and a new theater will be part of the updates. However, there are no firm plans yet about when the new theater will be built or if it will be bigger or better than the original. That’s disappointing! But if they are building a new theater, the best thing they could do is make it a 4DX experience.
