Wouldn’t it be hilarious to see Gina Kirschenheiter visibly high each episode? It’s incredibly funny watching her and Heather Dubrow explore a vibrant tulip field after seemingly taking magic mushrooms. They’re cracking up at the simplest things, taking goofy photos with tulip-filled clogs, and even having conversations with animated, ‘crying’ flowers – a clever nod to a similar scene in Broad City. The best part is when Gina realizes it’s Heather, of all people, who’s encouraging her to experiment with psychedelics. I’m enjoying how Heather has moved on from constantly saying ‘champs’ and is now playfully pushing everyone to try mild, legal hallucinogens. I’ve always liked Heather, but she’s quickly becoming a favorite with this unexpected role as Bravo’s resident advocate for responsible drug use.
Visiting the tulip field feels a bit strange. It’s not just the atmosphere, but it seems designed more for social media photos than actual farming. You start to wonder if they even sell the tulips – or if they just charge people, mostly middle-aged women, to take pictures and create content for their own social media, effectively making money off the photos instead of the flowers themselves. It makes you question if the owners are getting rich off people like Gretchen, who pose in quirky hats and offer discount codes. Is that a viable business plan? Could someone actually make a living doing that?
During lunch, Gina talks on and on until her friend Emily has to ask her to be quiet. Their conversation is pointless, as they’re trying to stir up drama between Jenn and Shannon over Jenn possibly attending Alexis Bellino’s wedding. It’s frustrating to watch because I already know Alexis didn’t want Jenn at the wedding and she ultimately didn’t go – and it has nothing to do with Shannon.
Honestly, it’s strange we’re even arguing about this. Basically, the women feel like Jenn and Shannon’s friendship isn’t genuine. They believe Shannon is putting so much effort into it because she avoids confronting anyone. They point out she wouldn’t even ask anyone to follow the rules, like keeping their feet out of the hot tub on the boat! It seems they think Shannon is dodging any difficult conversations about her friendships with the others, and prefers to just have an easy time with Jenn.
Shannon is a naturally funny physical comedian. Everything she does is hilarious – from struggling to walk with a blister to hilariously crashing their hot tub boat. Her boating style is particularly funny; she lounges around like a movie star, seemingly inviting a splash into the canal. It’s amazing she doesn’t fall in! Given her clumsiness – she once needed emergency help getting out of her Spanx – it’s surprising she hasn’t ended up needing to be rescued, complete with her signature hat, from the water.
Emily hopes a relaxing hot-tub boat ride – which she playfully calls a “crock pot” – will finally help Tamra and Gretchen resolve their issues. I admire Emily for trying to mediate and bring some sense to their conflict, and she’s doing it all while confidently rocking a one-piece swimsuit, which seems to be her superpower. She’s really at her best, and this might be the key to getting them to make peace.
The episode begins with Gretchen apologizing for mentioning the rumors about 98 Degrees, admitting it was a mistake. Tamra points out they’d agreed to stop attacking each other, but it quickly becomes clear Tamra was also talking negatively about Gretchen. Basically, the truce didn’t last, with both women continuing to fuel the conflict. Emily observes that they’re both stuck in a cycle of blaming each other, feeling justified because they were hurt first. Heather Gay made a similar observation on the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, pointing out the same dynamic between Lisa Barlow and Angie, and it seems to be true for everyone involved.
Emily helps Gretchen realize she contributed to the ongoing conflict, and it wasn’t just Tamra constantly attacking her. Even when Tamra dismisses Gretchen as unimportant, it’s clear both of them have fueled the drama. Gretchen seems to be finally understanding that her strategy of responding to negativity with more negativity hasn’t been effective – much like her relationship with Slade. (That was a particularly sharp comment!)
On the bus, Gretchen breaks down and admits she’s caused a lot of pain, not even realizing how much damage she’d done. She finally understands that hurting others, even those who deserve it, doesn’t make her actions right. She feels she’s become just as bad as Tamra, and deeply regrets letting the conflict consume her, turning her into someone she doesn’t like. Back in her hotel room, she’s overcome with tears, haunted by past and present hurts. She feels helpless, knowing she can’t undo the hurtful things said and done, or return to simpler times with the group.
Okay, so Gretchen showed up two hours late for dinner – at what looked like the best food court in Amsterdam, no less – and honestly, she seemed desperate to just end things with Tamra, to finally have some peace. She told Tamra she was tired of the constant drama, but then accused Tamra of being the one who wouldn’t back down. Tamra pointed out that Gretchen actually restarted the whole thing after they’d paused it, so Gretchen couldn’t really claim to hate the back-and-forth. It was just… a total stalemate. I kept hoping Tamra would see this as a chance to finally choose peace, but they’ve been at odds for so long, it felt like neither of them could really break the cycle.
Gretchen apologized to Tamra for any past negativity, and this time it seemed genuine. However, Tamra dismissed the apology, saying they’d already discussed it. The conversation revolved around taking responsibility, but Tamra felt she was constantly apologizing to Gretchen. It’s clear they both want to move forward – or maybe that’s just what I want to see! – but real resolution will require repeated apologies from both sides until they truly hear, believe, and accept them. Tamra’s unwillingness to compromise is exactly what Gretchen seems to want, as she’s been trying all season to make Tamra appear unreasonable.
I was envisioning a quiet scene of Gretchen reflecting on her journey, looking out her hotel window, when the story took a dramatic turn. It turns out the conflict isn’t resolved, and a previously prepared plan of Tamra’s is about to cause major problems. Tamra showed Gina some social media posts Gretchen had liked – posts that are critical of the LGBTQIA+ community, a community Heather’s family fully supports. Gretchen insists the screenshots are fabricated, but the fallout is inevitable. Next week, Gina will tell Heather, Heather will be upset, Gretchen will deny everything, and she’ll likely start a new argument with Tamra. This situation feels like a never-ending cycle, and honestly, it’s more likely the stars will collide than for these women to have a peaceful moment of reflection.
