Be warned, this article contains spoilers for the latest episode of FBI, season 8, episode 2, titled “Captured.” The FBI universe is undergoing changes after CBS canceled both FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International. Though successful, these shows were part of a wave of cancellations by CBS in 2025, marking a significant shift for Dick Wolf’s procedural dramas.
Fans were understandably upset when CBS canceled two popular shows. Fortunately, the cancellations happened well before the final episodes, giving the writers a chance to create satisfying conclusions. While FBI: Most Wanted managed to deliver a strong finale, the final episode of FBI: International unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations.
With the cancellations of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, only season 8 of FBI remains from the franchise scheduled for the 2025-2026 TV season so far. However, a new show called “Captured” is starting to build the foundation for a refreshed version of the FBI universe.
FBI Season 8, Episode 2 Lays The Foundation For Its CIA Spinoff
Paramount Express
Following Dani Rhodes’ death, Jubal’s team begins a new investigation that quickly becomes complex. What starts as a museum robbery soon reveals itself to be a plot to release a dangerous international criminal. Throughout the case, the New York Field Office relies on assistance from Anna Vorpe, who works for a secretive government agency known as the OGA.
During the mission, Vorpe manages things from a distance, remaining separate from the hands-on work of Maggie, OA, and Scola. Her arrival in FBI Season 8, Episode 2 feels a little strange, particularly when you consider her last conversation with Jubal. The mission doesn’t directly state this, but the term “OGA” is frequently used to refer to the CIA, even though officially it also includes Homeland Security and the FBI (according to DOE).
It’s pretty clear that Vorpe works for the CIA. Following the cancellations of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International, Wolf Entertainment and NBC are creating a new FBI spinoff focused on the CIA. While it was originally planned to launch with season 9 of FBI in fall 2025, production issues have caused a delay.

Tom Ellis, known for his role as Hart Hoxton – a talented but unpredictable CIA officer – will lead a new series spun off from FBI and CIA. He’ll be joined by Nick Gehlfuss, formerly of Chicago Med, who will play the more level-headed FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman. Natalee Linez and Michael Michelle will also star as CIA agents. It’s currently unknown if the character Vorpe, who appeared in FBI season 8, episode 2, will eventually become part of the CIA series.
The seventh season of FBI was originally planned to introduce a new spinoff with a special episode, but those plans were canceled because the details for the new show weren’t finalized in time. Now, the spinoff, titled CIA, is expected to premiere mid-season. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, filming has been underway for some time.
