The release of The Sinking City 2, a Lovecraftian survival-horror game, has been pushed back to 2026. The developers at Frogwares cite the war in Ukraine and the game’s complex design as reasons for the delay. They are currently targeting a release in the first six months of 2026, though a specific date isn’t confirmed.
Creating a game while a war is happening is incredibly challenging and unpredictable, requiring constant adjustment, according to Sergiy Oganesyan, head of publishing at Frogwares. He explained that they’ve faced issues like days-long power outages due to attacks on the power grid, followed by nightly drone swarms. The team would work all day and then spend sleepless nights listening for explosions, all while needing to remain productive the next day.
Alexander Gresko, lead game designer, explained that shifting The Sinking City 2 more firmly into the survival-horror genre has taken longer than expected, requiring the team to adopt a new approach to game design. To share more about the game while fans wait, Frogwares released 13 new screenshots showcasing the game’s environments and enemies, and plans to offer a new gameplay reveal in the near future.
Although The Sinking City 2 is delayed, horror fans have plenty of options right now. The recently released Silent Hill F is receiving excellent reviews and is considered a high point for the series. Several other new horror games came out in 2025, including Cronos: The New Dawn, Heartworm, and Killing Floor 3. And looking further ahead, 2026 promises even more scares with upcoming titles like Resident Evil: Requiem, Reanimal, and End of Abyss.
