Hidden detail in Gen V Season 2 finale trailer sparks major Marie theory

Season 2 of Gen V suggests Marie could be a significant counterpart to Homelander. However, a detail spotted in the finale trailer hints that her abilities might be more complex than we initially thought. Be warned: spoilers follow!

The latest episode of the show revealed the true identity of Godolkin University’s dean, Cipher (Hamish Linklater). It turns out he’s actually Dr. Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater), who has been disguised as the dean all along.

Cipher is actually a man named Doug, and he’s been controlled like a puppet by the leader of God U for years. This leader has a plan to use Marie to fix Doug’s body, and then eliminate three out of four students, hoping to create a group of even stronger super-powered individuals.

Marie and her friends don’t understand the consequences of their actions until after she successfully heals Thomas Godolkin. However, this event does give her a remarkable new ability – seemingly the power to revive the dead. But is that truly what’s happening?

Gen V Season 2 Episode 8 trailer sparks Marie theory

The latest trailer for Gen V Season 2, Episode 8, reveals Godolkin putting his villainous scheme into motion. However, a careful look at his hands shows the beginning of blisters – similar to the burns he had before Marie’s healing.

This could mean Marie’s ability to bring people back to life isn’t permanent, or that the revived individuals might lose their powers over time as they use them. A keen-eyed viewer of the Prime Video series Gen V noticed this brief scene and shared it on the show’s subreddit.

The screenshots were accompanied by a note explaining that Marie’s healing abilities don’t last forever. They pointed to images of Godolkin’s hand from a preview, noting visible scars or tissue damage.

The scars didn’t immediately reappear after Marie healed him, which suggests her healing isn’t lasting. It seems Godolkin’s scars will gradually return, and this will ultimately be a factor in his downfall.

Here’s the sad part: Marie also healed her sister, Annabeth (Keeya King). If the idea that healing comes at a cost is correct, Annabeth’s health could also begin to worsen.

The commenter speculated that the extent of Marie’s power loss was linked to how quickly a wound healed, since the initial injury was just a stab wound, not a full-body trauma. They worried that, if this theory was correct, Annabeth could also be in serious trouble.

The only troubling part is Annabeth’s disturbing vision of Marie covered in blood. I initially thought it might be Annabeth’s own blood, but I can’t figure out how she would be able to see that. Still, it’s a possibility.

Alternatively, the process of getting worse might only begin when Annabeth, who’s already healed, actually uses her powers. While she doesn’t enjoy being a supe, she might have to learn to manage – and avoid using – her abilities if she wants to stay alive.

Right now, this is just a theory, but it’s definitely gotten Gen V fans talking.

One person commented that healing would likely depend on how serious the injury was. They suggested minor injuries might heal naturally, even considering Marie’s involvement. However, they believed more severe injuries, like Godolkin’s, would probably worsen without additional care.

Someone else agreed, saying, “This is incredible! I’m curious about the woman Marie helped in Episode 1, the one at the club.”

We still have a lot to learn about her abilities, and she’s still discovering them herself. It’s likely there are weaknesses or boundaries we haven’t encountered yet, as another person pointed out.

Some viewers have offered different explanations, suggesting the scene shows a struggle between the character and Marie. One person theorized that Marie might be attacking his blood, similar to how she’s acted previously to incapacitate others, as he tries to reach a button.

Someone else wondered if, instead of the effect wearing off, she could actually reverse it. They reasoned that if she can create life, she should also be able to take it away. Because she’s already reversed things before, she understands how cells are built and could, in theory, rebuild them.

The season finale of Gen V will be available on October 22, 2025. In the meantime, you can revisit all the cameos from The Boys in Gen V, get updates on Season 5 of The Boys, and discover other new shows to stream this month.
