A photo taken on the set of the upcoming series, *Lanterns*, has sparked speculation among fans about the show’s villain, and many believe this character could have a significant impact on the wider DC Universe.
Now that *Peacemaker* Season 2 has finished airing, the next DC Universe project will be *Lanterns*. It’s expected to arrive on HBO in the spring, before the *Supergirl* movie comes out on June 26, 2026. The series will focus on the stories of John Stewart (played by Aaron Pierre) and Hal Jordan (played by Kyle Chandler), but details about the plot are still mostly a secret.
A user on X (formerly Twitter), @JoshDenofNerds, posted a photo claiming it’s from the upcoming DCU show *Lanterns*. The image features the Green Lantern logo with a unique swirl design. The user alleges that a Reddit video pointed out this swirl might hint at a connection to ‘The Centre’—a DC Comics location—but Warner Bros. reportedly had the video removed. While neither Warner Bros. nor the show’s production has confirmed the image’s authenticity, the user believes the swirl is a visual clue that ‘The Centre’ will be a key mystery and threat in *Lanterns*.
What Exactly is The Centre?
First appearing in 1960 as Dinosaur Island in the comic *The War that Time Forgot*, created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru, the Centre was later redesigned by Darwyn Cooke for his popular *DC New Frontier* series. This living landmass floats through time, using dinosaurs as its servants. It watches the development of humankind, but views humanity as a danger, leading the Justice League to intervene. Throughout the comics, the Centre is shown observing human history in a spiral-like pattern, much like the one pictured.
After the finale of *Peacemaker* Season 2, the idea of the upcoming series *Lanterns* being connected to the show has become much more popular. The finale left Peacemaker stranded on Salvation, a prison planet filled with dinosaur-like creatures. When *Lanterns* was first announced, James Gunn hinted the story would be important to the overall DC Universe. Now, with confirmation that the Salvation storyline will also be part of *Lanterns*, a connection seems likely. However, it’s a bit of a leap, considering the events in *Peacemaker* took place on another dimension, while *Lanterns* is set on Earth.
As a huge DC fan, I’m really excited about *Lanterns*, but there’s a lot of mystery around what the story will actually be about, especially since it’s supposed to be a grounded, Earth-based mystery. We know Ulrich Thomsen is playing Sinestro, which is awesome! There’s also buzz that Paul Ben-Victor will be Atrocitus, a Red Lantern, and a lot of people think Garret Dillahunt’s character might be Black Hand, who’s a major villain in the *Blackest Night* storyline. There are so many possibilities for where they could take the story, and while I’ve heard the rumors about ‘The Centre,’ it’s still just speculation at this point.
