Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat, says the beginning of the new Mortal Kombat 2 movie is incredibly impactful – he’s even cried every time he’s seen it! He promises it will be a powerful and emotional experience for viewers.
According to GamesRadar, Troy Baker told Collider that every time he’s watched the opening of the movie, he’s cried. He described it as incredibly intense and emotionally impactful, saying it’s a fantastic way to begin the film and that the rest of the movie consistently delivers on that strong start. It’s a truly powerful scene.
He didn’t offer any further explanation, leaving us unclear about what he meant or whether the beginning of the game will actually achieve what the developer promised.
During the interview, Boon promised the new game will deliver everything fans are hoping for, including the intense violence needed to justify its mature rating. He specifically mentioned that the long-requested tournament feature will be included and will definitely please players.
Originally planned for release on October 24th, the new Mortal Kombat movie has been pushed back to May 2026 by Warner Bros. Director Simon McQuoid explained the delay was because the filmmakers wanted more time to deliver a truly exceptional film, building on the success of the first one.
The director told The Hollywood Reporter that the movie has been building excitement with every viewing. He’s proud they’ve made a huge summer hit and excited about the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise, with the sequel planned for next year. While fans will have to wait, he believes it will be worth it when the next installment arrives.
Karl Urban, known for his role in ‘The Boys,’ will star as Johnny Cage in the upcoming ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ movie. He joins returning cast members Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Tati Gabrielle as Jade.
At New York Comic-Con this month, Warner Bros. announced that it had greenlit Mortal Kombat 3.
