Sonic the Hedgehog Miniature Arcade Cabinet Coming Soon

Sonic the Hedgehog is Sega’s famous mascot, especially remembered from when Sega made consoles from 1983 to 2001. Sega was also a leader in arcades, with many popular games first appearing as arcade machines. Surprisingly, the original Sonic the Hedgehog game never had its own arcade version – until now! Sega is partnering with My Arcade to release a mini Sonic the Hedgehog Joystick Player cabinet. This small device lets you play the first two Sonic games with working controls, and it’s compact enough to display on a shelf. It will be available on November 1st, with pre-orders open now for $60 on Amazon.

My Arcade currently offers a variety of small arcade cabinets, perfect for building a fun collection. Similar to the Sonic cabinet, they all have bright screens and are about the same size. The Galaga Joystick Player is special because it uses a larger joystick that feels like it’s from a spaceship! You can also find Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man machines, each costing around $50.

If you’re looking for at-home arcade options beyond My Arcade, Arcade1Up offers some great choices. The $168 Class of ’81 Countercade features a 7-inch screen and full-size controls, and comes pre-loaded with classic games like Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, and Dig Dug. It’s portable – you can power it with batteries or USB – and compact enough to fit on a desk for a quick gaming break. Plus, it features authentic artwork from Ms. Pac-Man and Galaga, giving it a true retro feel.

The Evercade Alpha Taito Bartop Arcade, priced at $260, will be available starting November 12th. This small arcade cabinet features an 8-inch screen and comes with 10 games already installed. You can add to this collection by buying additional game cartridges for the Evercade system. This is the third Evercade Alpha model, following the Mega Man and Street Fighter versions, and it’s likely to sell out quickly, just like the previous releases.

While our other suggestion is more expensive, Arcade1Up offers more affordable, smaller arcade cabinets. These cost $334 each and come in Mortal Kombat 2, Ms. Pac-Man, and Pac-Man themes. Each cabinet includes 13 pre-installed games, a 15.6-inch IPS screen, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi for online leaderboards and multiplayer, and user-friendly controls.

These machines come with several games already installed, beyond the popular main titles. If you’d like to adjust the height to a more comfortable level for adults, you can buy a universal Arcade1Up riser for $59, which raises the machine to 5 feet tall. They do require some building, but Arcade1Up provides clear instructions, making the assembly process enjoyable.
