The Xenomorph just got a high-fashion makeover from Mattel.
The terrifying extraterrestrial at the center of the Alien franchise is now a Monster High doll.
Mattel announced that their new Monster High Skullector Alien Doll combines the popular *Alien* franchise with Monster High’s unique, glamorous style, making it a perfect collectible for fans this Halloween.
This 11-inch doll is designed with a flexible tail and heels that look like the creature from Alien, called a Facehugger. Its face and head shape are also inspired by the Xenomorph, featuring an elongated, rounded skull.
The doll’s packaging is designed to look like the Nostromo spacecraft from the original 1979 science fiction horror film by Ridley Scott. Check out the pictures below.
This doll is a stylish tribute to the famous Xenomorph creature from science fiction. It features a sleek black dress with details inspired by the creature’s exoskeleton and a headpiece that mimics its skull shape. Mattel describes it as a unique and detailed collectible, perfect for fans of sci-fi and pop culture. It comes in special collectible packaging with a certificate of authenticity, offering a fashionable take on a horror icon.
Monster High is a line of fashion dolls created by Mattel, known for its spooky, monster-themed designs. Over time, the brand has partnered with popular horror franchises to create special dolls, like versions of Pennywise from IT, Annabelle, and M3GAN, and many more iconic characters.
As a doll collector, I’m really excited about the new Monster High Skullector Alien Doll! If you’re a Mattel Creations member, you can snag one starting October 16th. Otherwise, it’ll be available to everyone else on October 17th. It’s priced at $85, so be ready if you want to add this one to your collection!
Terrifying Sci-Fi Horror Movies That Aren’t Alien
1. Nope
Jordan Peele’s film *Nope* is about a brother and sister who train horses and try to film a UFO they’ve spotted near their ranch in California. Beyond its deeper themes and commentary on Hollywood, the 2022 horror-Western is a thrilling throwback to classic sci-fi, delivering both scares and a sense of wonder. The film’s UFO, nicknamed “Jean Jacket,” is truly terrifying and impressive. With visuals reminiscent of Spielberg films like *Close Encounters of the Third Kind* and *Jaws*, *Nope* offers stunning imagery, surprising moments of humor, and engaging characters, all wrapped around a genuinely frightening story that will stay with you long after you’ve seen it.
2. Event Horizon
It’s unfortunate that Paul W.S. Anderson’s 1997 sci-fi horror film, *Event Horizon*, suffered from studio interference during production, because it had the potential to be a truly iconic movie. The film centers on a rescue crew sent to investigate a spaceship that mysteriously reappears near Neptune. They soon discover the ship wasn’t abandoned – something sinister came back with it. Known for its disturbing imagery and intense visuals, *Event Horizon* has become a cult favorite over time, captivating audiences with its dark, gothic aesthetic and deeply unsettling atmosphere.
3. Sputnik
The 2020 Russian sci-fi horror film *Sputnik* centers on a doctor racing to save a cosmonaut who returns to Earth after a crash landing, harboring a strange creature within him. With a strong sense of style and a somber mood, the film effectively captures the atmosphere of the Soviet era. While *Sputnik* delivers plenty of tension, scares, and gruesome alien effects, it’s the emotional story and the characters that truly resonate.
4. Underwater
Released in 2020, the movie *Underwater* is a terrifying horror film set six miles beneath the ocean’s surface. A deep-sea drilling team finds itself battling strange and dangerous creatures after their underwater station is flooded. Starring Kristen Stewart, the film is heavily inspired by Ridley Scott’s *Alien*, creating a similar feeling of isolation and dread. Like *Alien*, it features a bleak atmosphere, a small, determined crew, and the terrifying vastness of an unknown environment. Though it received mixed reviews and wasn’t a commercial success, *Underwater* expertly builds suspense from the beginning and delivers a surprisingly wild and unexpected ending.
5. No One Will Save You
While sharing elements with films like *Signs*, *A Quiet Place*, and *Invasion of the Body Snatchers*, *No One Will Save You* (2023) is a truly original story, much like its complex main character. The film, told with very little dialogue, centers on Brynn, a woman isolated from her community after a past tragedy. When a terrifying alien invasion begins, Brynn—played powerfully by Kaitlyn Dever—must rely on herself to survive. Ultimately, the film is a moving exploration of trauma and the possibility of forgiveness. But on a simpler level, it’s a thrilling, old-school alien invasion movie that will keep you gripped from beginning to end.
6. Life
The 2017 film *Life* follows a team of astronauts on the International Space Station who make a chilling discovery while searching for life on Mars. They find a mysterious organism—quickly nicknamed “Calvin”—that evolves into a dangerous and intelligent predator. This creature invades the astronauts’ bodies, and the film becomes a fast-paced, terrifying fight for survival. With a strong cast and a surprising twist, *Life* is a tense and action-packed sci-fi horror movie that doesn’t let up.
7. The Vast of Night
I just finished watching *The Vast of Night*, and wow, it really stuck with me. It’s set in 1950s New Mexico, and follows two high school kids working at a radio station who stumble onto a genuinely creepy mystery – strange sounds and reports of possible alien abductions. It’s not a jump-scare kind of horror movie; instead, director Andrew Patterson builds the tension so subtly and effectively. It’s a low-budget, independent film from 2019, but it feels huge in scope, and the ending? It completely floored me. It’s a slow burn, but trust me, it pays off in a big way.
8. Leviathan
Though *Leviathan* borrows elements from other sci-fi horror films and isn’t a critical favorite, it’s still a fun, hidden gem, especially for late-night movie fans. This 1989 horror film centers on the crew of an underwater research station who encounter a wrecked Soviet ship and accidentally unleash a terrifying, alien creature. Over time, *Leviathan* has gained a dedicated cult following, boosted by the impressive creature effects created by special effects master Stan Winston.
9. Pandorum
Imagine a blend of *Dead Space* and *The Descent*. That’s *Pandorum*, a 2009 sci-fi horror film that layers psychological thrills, apocalyptic action, and creature features within a terrifyingly claustrophobic spaceship setting. The story follows two crew members who wake up from hypersleep to find their ship deserted—but they quickly realize they aren’t alone, and something monstrous is hiding in the shadows. Though it didn’t do well in theaters and received negative reviews at the time, *Pandorum*, starring Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid, has gained a cult following for its dark, dystopian atmosphere and surprising plot twists.
10. Annihilation
The movie *Annihilation* centers around a team of scientists investigating a mysterious, quarantined area called the Shimmer. Inside, they find animals strangely altered by an unknown alien presence, and soon, the scientists themselves begin to change or lose their minds. Director Alex Garland’s 2018 sci-fi film is both stunning and disturbing, like a dream mixed with a nightmare. It’s a visually impressive and thought-provoking movie that’s scary not just because of its frightening scenes—that mutated bear is particularly memorable—but also because it asks big questions and challenges viewers to think.
