Animal Crossing Imitator Pops Up On PSN, Alongside A Last Of Us Lookalike

Anime Village Online is an upcoming game scheduled for release in 2027, and it’s now listed on the PlayStation Network. Developed by GamePoc, the game bears a strong resemblance to Nintendo’s Animal Crossing, particularly in its character design (especially the eyes), name, and core gameplay—which focuses on decorating, fishing, and farming.

GamePoc is a new developer without a released game yet, but they’re currently advertising two projects, including ‘Rooted: Survival,’ which bears a strong resemblance to ‘The Last of Us.’ When TopMob contacted GamePoc’s CEO, Wisnu Sudirman, about these games, he confirmed that both are in development.

Sudirman explained in an email that while Rooted: Survival and The Last of Us both feature zombies and post-apocalyptic settings, and Anime Village Online shares similarities with Animal Crossing’s life-simulation aspects, each game is designed with unique objectives and gameplay mechanics.

We mainly create online games where players team up and cooperate. This focus on playing together sets our games apart from many others.

Anime Village Online claims to offer multiplayer across different gaming systems, but it’s currently only available on one platform. The game developer, GamePoc, is working on two more games: Orbital Station Simulator, planned for release on PlayStation in May 2026, and Cyberpunk Fighter, which is coming to Steam at an unspecified date. Currently, none of these games are available for purchase.

Games that closely imitate others aren’t uncommon. For example, in 2023, a game called The Last Hope – Dead Zone Revival, which heavily copied The Last of Us, was taken down from the Nintendo Switch eShop. However, it was never released in North America.
