This series is still one of the most famous mecha and anime franchises ever created, starting with a truly innovative show. But that wasn’t actually where it all began – the original inspiration is now being celebrated with a brand-new collectible.
A new, highly detailed statue of Misato Katsuragi has been released by HOBBY MAX JAPAN. The figure is based on a famous panel from the Evangelion manga and beautifully recreates her signature look. Pre-orders are open now, but will close soon, so fans shouldn’t wait to get theirs!
Evangelion’s Newest Figure Brings Misato’s Manga Design to Life

The Misato Katsuragi: Comics Ver. scale figure from HOBBY MAX JAPAN is based on a popular character from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Misato is a key figure in the series and essentially becomes a mother figure to the main character, Shinji Ikari, after he moves in with her to begin piloting one of the Evangelions.
The new statue captures Misato in her iconic look: a sleek black dress paired with a red leather jacket. She’s posed with a playful tilt of the head and confidently holds a gun in her left hand. The statue’s creators paid close attention to detail, ensuring her black boots and clothing have a realistic shine and texture. They also carefully colored her hair with subtle shades of purple to accurately reflect her appearance in the anime.
Interestingly, the pose actually originates from the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga, not the anime. This is unusual because typically manga adaptations come after the anime, but in this case, the manga was released in 1994 to build anticipation for the anime.
Interestingly, the anime didn’t come from the manga. Instead, the manga was created based on ideas developed for the anime, which was already being made. Today, the manga is mostly overlooked and isn’t well-known compared to the popular anime it inspired.
Even though it’s a small piece of the overall story, this new figurine is something I think any mecha fan will really appreciate. I recently saw that the Misato Katsuragi: Comics Ver. scale figure is available for pre-order now on various sites for around $163 US dollars. Just a heads-up though – pre-orders close on June 25th, and if you order one, you won’t receive it until around April 2027.
