Freddy, a soccer fan from Germany, is gaining popularity on X (formerly Twitter) for sharing his journey across America in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, and his updates are consistently entertaining.
Freddy (@FreddyLA7) started sharing updates on June 5th after flying in, and he’s quickly gained over 270,000 followers as he travels from Atlanta to Houston. Along the way, he’s had some memorable experiences – he declared Taco Bell a paradise, stumbled upon a German village in the North Georgia mountains where he felt comfortable, and discovered the country singer Ella Langley, who he says perfectly captured the vibe of his journey.
Hearing her on the radio while they drove through Louisiana really affected him, and he felt a bit heartbroken.

Some of the best parts of the trip were the food stops. A late-night visit to Waffle House was a perfect 10, and he vowed to go back. Buc-ee’s was such a surprise he exclaimed it was an amazing gas station, especially after only eating a chicken sandwich at Walmart all day. He was also completely overwhelmed by the choices at a Wendy’s Freestyle machine, jokingly asking how anyone could decide!
DUDE LMAO THIS IS A GAS STATION😭😭😭

The topic of guns appeared several times during his travels. He noticed guns at a Bass Pro Shops store he visited, which included a shooting range and rifles on display, and he made a separate note about the rifles being for sale. Later, while overlooking a view at Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga with an American man, the man remarked it was “the perfect sniper spot,” a comment Freddy simply recorded without adding any of his own thoughts.

An American next to us said this is the perfect sniper spot.

A hotel employee went above and beyond for a group of guests, driving them to a stadium in the rain instead of letting them walk an hour to avoid the cost of an Uber. He was so touched by the kindness he experienced that he shared, “I love Americans.” After a soccer match between Argentina and Iceland in Auburn, Alabama, a friend expressed their disbelief at the situation, jokingly saying, “Even if you hit me five times tomorrow, I still won’t believe this happened.”
I’m completely stunned – this is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. A friend even said they’d let me punch them five times tomorrow and still wouldn’t believe it was happening.

So I’m currently rolling through New Orleans! Last night was… an experience. Waffle House was closed inside, so I grabbed takeout and ate it in their parking lot. Apparently, locals were a little worried about that – got some replies saying it wasn’t the best area to be hanging around at night! Anyway, I’ve still got another five weeks on this trip, so who knows what else will happen.
Freddy isn’t alone in making the trip part of the experience. One fan from Scotland walked a remarkable 3,000 miles from Los Angeles to New York before his team’s first game. Others are even creating their own World Cup stickers instead of spending around $2,000 to complete the official Panini sticker collection.
