After a mysterious message appeared, fans of Game of Thrones are excited again about the possibility of finally learning when the next book, The Winds of Winter, will be released.
Man, it’s been almost 15 years since the last proper book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series came out! The fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, dropped back in 2011, right around the time the first season of the TV show was hitting our screens.
Following the conclusion of Game of Thrones after eight seasons, George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood came out in 2018 and was later turned into the House of the Dragon television series. Also, the first of his Dunk and Egg novellas was published as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
The long-awaited sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, was initially anticipated in 2015, but its release has been repeatedly postponed, leaving fans frustrated by numerous unfulfilled promises over the years.

However, excitement is building again among fans after The Folio Society shared something on Instagram.
The company, known for creating rare and collectible books, was showcasing a special leather-bound edition of ‘A Game of Thrones’ to mark its 30th anniversary – it even featured details resembling dragon scales! The accompanying description ended with a hint about something more to come.

This announcement sparked excitement among fans, who are hoping it means George R.R. Martin’s long-awaited sixth book, The Winds of Winter, will be released soon.
One person commented, “Winter is coming!” – referencing a popular phrase – and another urgently asked for clarification on the previous statement.
The excitement spread to X (formerly Twitter), where one fan admitted they were struggling not to get carried away by the latest developments.
Someone jokingly said they deserve an award for hoping again, because they’re starting to really believe we’ll finally get ‘The Winds of Winter’ this year.
It’s unlikely this announcement is about the new book, The Winds of Winter. It’s probably just a special edition of one of George R. R. Martin’s existing novels. He’s said before that the announcement of the new book will be a much bigger event.
The author keeps telling fans he’s still writing The Winds of Winter (TWOW), though he’s previously described it as a major struggle. He recently shared that he’s also begun working on two new tales featuring Dunk and Egg.
Good news for fans of Game of Thrones! Season 3 of House of the Dragon will premiere on June 21st, and the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is planned for 2027.
