Neopets finally returns to physical stores after neayl 20 years with first-ever NYC pop-up

Neopets, the popular virtual pet website, is launching its first-ever real-life store in New York City. This is a major step for the site, representing one of its biggest physical retail efforts in years.

Neopets has announced a pop-up event scheduled for August 21-23, 2026. They’ll be sharing more information on their social media and in their newsletters soon.

For those who’ve been playing for years, this news is about more than just new products. Neopets used to be hugely popular in the early 2000s, and you could find all sorts of merchandise – like stuffed animals, toys, and trading cards – in stores and malls when the site was at its most popular.

After the late 2000s, it became much harder to find Neopets merchandise in physical stores. Limited Too was a key retailer for Neopets items during the height of its popularity in malls, and the Key Quest plushies from JAKKS Pacific, released between 2008 and 2009, represent some of the last major Neopets toys sold in stores.

We’re excited to announce the first-ever Neopets pop-up shop will be open in New York City from August 21st to 23rd! For more details and updates, be sure to follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter. 🍎👀 #Neopets #NewYorkPopup

Neopets announces first-ever New York pop-up store

A new temporary installation features artwork of Nigel the Chia, depicted in New York City. He’s shown standing beside a red sports car with a license plate that playfully spells out “NEO-YORK,” with a Wall Street sign visible behind him.

This detail is a subtle nod to dedicated players. Nigel’s connection to the Neopian Stock Market makes Wall Street a clear reference for those who fondly remember the days of seriously playing the browser game’s simulated stock market.

This news arrives as Neopets experiences a resurgence, often called the “Neo-Renaissance,” after being bought and revamped in 2023. Since then, the site has focused on bringing back fond memories for players while working to rebuild the community, fix old features, and partner with brands to create physical products.

Earlier this year, Neopets partnered with Gong cha for a special boba tea promotion in the US and Canada, featuring unique drinks, merchandise, contests, and prizes both online and in the game. Now, their recent pop-up shop in New York City seems to be the next big move in bringing Neopets back to physical stores.

A major draw for collectors will probably be Rare Item Codes. These codes have often been included with Neopets products and allow players to get special digital items within the game.

The codes included with Neopets plushies are a key reason people connect the virtual world with real-life collecting, as these items can become quite valuable in the game. Having a dedicated store again is a big change for long-time players who remember searching for plushies in shops, especially after years of only getting merchandise online.

Neopets hasn’t announced specifics about the August pop-up shop yet, including what merchandise will be available, where it will be located, or if it will include Rare Item Codes.
