A woman in China jokingly claimed her car’s self-driving system is a better driver than she is, after receiving a ticket for dancing while driving.
As a gamer, I think driving is a lot like playing a fast-paced game. You always have to be focused. I mean, hands on the wheel, eyes up, and totally aware of everything around you. You can be a perfect driver, but you can’t control what other people do, so you always need to be prepared for anything!
While features like cruise control and driver-assist systems are meant to help, they can sometimes lead drivers to become distracted. Even self-driving taxis, despite their advanced technology, haven’t fully solved the problem of safe, independent operation and are still causing issues on roads in the U.S.
I just read this crazy story out of China! Apparently, a woman got a fine because she was putting on makeup and dancing while her car’s autopilot was driving for her. Can you believe that? It’s wild to think people are doing their beauty routines while letting the car do all the work!
Woman fined after videoing herself dancing while driving
According to the South China Morning Post, a woman known only as Lin was posting videos online showing herself not paying attention while driving. Viewers noticed her dangerous behavior and reported her to the police.
The report states that Lin explained to police she was concentrating on driving, but felt the AI system performed the task more skillfully than she did.
She explained, ‘Even while I was occupied with other tasks, my mind kept returning to the act of driving.’ I hadn’t considered that aspect before, because I have a lot of confidence in self-driving technology. Honestly, as a woman who drives, I believe it actually performs better than I do.

According to the South China Morning Post, Lin received a fine of 200 yuan (approximately $30 or £21) and lost points on her driving license after being found guilty of unsafe driving.
This situation is quite different from an incident in early April where a man received a 200 yuan fine and penalty points because his girlfriend checked if he was being unfaithful by secretly riding on the back of his truck.
