Around 25,000 Spectrum customers in Dallas, Texas, experienced an internet outage caused by a single bullet. It sounds unbelievable, but it’s true!
When the internet goes down for reasons you can’t fix yourself, it can be anything from a minor annoyance to a really frustrating problem. It’s particularly irritating when you’ve already tried all the troubleshooting steps and made sure your WiFi router is placed where it shouldn’t have any obstructions.
However, outages are most disruptive when they happen due to things you can’t fix yourself. We’ve experienced interruptions caused by severe weather, errors made by technicians, and just about everything else you can imagine.
In Dallas, Texas, approximately 25,000 Spectrum customers experienced an internet outage lasting about three hours due to a bullet that accidentally hit equipment.

That’s correct. A portion of Spectrum’s service in Dallas was disrupted when a bullet severed a fiber optic cable. It’s an unusual situation, but that’s what happened.
People in the Dallas-Fort Worth area experienced an outage on September 26th and shared their issues on DownDetector. They reported problems with their internet, TV, phone service, and even the company’s mobile app.
Spectrum fixed the problem within three hours, informing FOX4 that their crew completed the “necessary repairs”. However, they didn’t share the precise location of the damaged cable.
According to The Register, this isn’t the first time Spectrum’s service has been disrupted by something involving a firearm.
In June, customers in Ohio were taken offline because several shotgun blasts damaged a cable line.
This wasn’t the first incident of its kind this year, nor was it the first for the state. At the beginning of 2025, people in Columbus lost service for nearly two days when damage to one power line was caused by stray electrical activity.
People in Dallas are probably hoping this doesn’t happen often. However, it’s worth remembering that the issue has been resolved, as previously mentioned.
