The popular mobile game Neverness to Everness, known for its fantastical world and collectible characters, is facing criticism from players who believe it’s using artificial intelligence in its development.
It’s hard not to notice how beautifully designed Neverness to Everness is, whether you’re focused on characters, completing tasks, or simply wandering around. The game draws heavily from anime and features gorgeous environments inspired by Japan and other places, all while maintaining a subtly unsettling atmosphere with its strange anomalies.
After the game launched, fans reacted negatively when they discovered what appeared to be AI-generated content. Some even accused the developers of directly copying images from a well-known anime.
Does Neverness to Everness use AI?
The creators of Neverness to Everness haven’t yet confirmed whether the finished game will include artificial intelligence.
The developers previously addressed concerns about AI, stating they will never use it to create their main artwork or character designs. They do plan to experiment with AI for creating background visuals, using it as a tool to explore different styles and find inspiration before creating the final artwork. This will involve a lot of testing and refinement to achieve the desired look.
Fans accuse Neverness to Everness of AI use
However, many fans have criticized the game, accusing it of copying shots from popular anime such as Weathering with You. Some have even shared videos claiming the game directly uses scenes from the anime, simply adding an AI filter.
Someone posted a character animation online, and many people immediately noticed it looked like it was created using AI. This sparked a wider conversation, with numerous fans sharing examples of artwork and animations they believe were also generated by AI, expressing their concerns about its increasing use.
I saw a billboard using scenes from the movie Weathering with You, but it had an AI filter applied to them. I’m really enjoying the movie itself, but the billboard’s design feels really uninspired and lazy.

The developers haven’t confirmed or denied if they used AI in these new features. We’ll share any official statements they make about this as soon as they’re available.
