Clear River Games is bringing the classic game Culdcept The First to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series consoles on September 8th in Western regions. Players on PC (via Steam) can enjoy the game starting July 30th globally.

Culdcept, a classic game originally released on Sega Saturn in Japan in 1997, is getting a modern update and English translation this July. Clear River Games will publish the physical version on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in Western territories, and pre-orders are available now. CityConnection is responsible for the Steam release and the console release in Japan.

Clear River Games is bringing the beloved classic game Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute to Western audiences on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. They’re working with developers City Connection and the original creators, Omiya Soft, to make it happen.

Fans of digital board games have been eagerly awaiting Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, which is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS5 in both digital and physical formats. Originally released for the SEGA Saturn in 1997, Culdcept The First quickly gained a dedicated following thanks to its captivating deck-building, beautiful art, and immersive fantasy world.

Clear River Games and City Connection are excited to introduce players to the world of Culdcept with an updated version of the original game. For the first time, it will be available with English subtitles and include modern features to improve the gaming experience.

In Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, players are transported to Culdra Space, a universe created by the powerful goddess Culdra, who invented Culdcept – a magical book capable of immense creative power. Players take on the role of a ‘Cepter’ and enter battles using their personalized 50-card ‘Book’ deck.

Explore the game board by rolling dice and collecting amazing creatures. In Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute, you claim spaces as your own by placing creatures on them, and use Spell Cards to influence dice rolls, help your creatures, or hinder opponents.

Navigating the board can be challenging. Landing on another player’s territory requires you to pay a toll in Magic Power, but you can fight back! Summon a creature and win the battle to take control of the space. Success in Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute depends on your creatures’ strengths, but also on strategically using Item Cards and taking advantage of bonuses from the land and your allies.

Okay, so basically, you run around grabbing land and building up your Magic Power. The first player to collect enough Magic Power and get back to the Castle wins the round. After each battle, we get a random set of cards depending on how well we did – these go into our Book, and we use them to tweak our strategy for the next fight. It’s all about getting stronger and outsmarting the other players!

Beyond the classic game, Culdcept The First Saturn Tribute includes improvements for today’s players. These features include:

  • Rewind the game to any point where a Checkpoint was passed at a Fort or the Castle.
  • Quick Save & Load enables gamers to save and load at any time, independent of the main game’s standard save function.
  • Bonus Pack increases the number of Reward Cards received at the end of a match. (can be toggled ON/OFF in the options menu).
  • Reveal Hands is a brand-new feature allowing gamers to constantly display both their own and their opponent’s hand on-screen—information that was only visible at specific times in the original version. Reveal Hands can be toggled ON/OFF, and the display size adjusts automatically depending on the game’s screen layout.
  • Language Switching allows gamers to play the game in either Japanese or English.

Culdcept: The First Saturn Tribute will be available digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Physical copies will also be released simultaneously for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. The standard edition will cost $34.99 or €29.99, and the deluxe edition will be priced at $79.99 or €69.99.
