Apple TV’s Trying Season 5 Officially Debuts This Summer

Apple TV has released the first images of the upcoming season of the popular comedy series. Season 5 is scheduled to premiere this summer.

Season 5 of Trying will premiere on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. New photos have been released, featuring stars Esther Smith, Rafe Spall, and the rest of the cast. The season has eight episodes, and new ones will be released each week, with the finale airing on Wednesday, August 26.

The Story Continues in Trying Season 5

The show follows Nikki and Jason as their peaceful family life is disrupted when Kat, the biological mother of Princess and Tyler, unexpectedly arrives. Her presence throws everything into chaos and forces them to deal with the resulting consequences.

Season 5 will also feature performances by Darren Boyd (known for Down Cemetery Road), Siân Brooke (Blue Lights), Celia Imrie (The Thursday Murder Club), Phil Davis (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Gbemisola Ikumelo (Black Ops), and Colin Morgan (Belfast). Andy Wolton created and wrote the series, and he executive produces it with Josch Cole, Sam Pinnell, and Chris Sussman. Timothy Spall and Hugh Bonneville are also executive producers.

Fans were getting anxious for the next season! The show finished its fourth season in July 2024, and the fifth season isn’t arriving until over two years later. For the first three seasons, new episodes came out every year, but the fourth season started a pattern of two-year gaps, as the third season ended in 2022. Each season has had eight episodes, and the fifth season will be the same.

Critics Have Loved Trying Since the Start

Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s longest-running comedy series, having premiered in 2020. It’s highly rated by critics (96% on Rotten Tomatoes) and viewers alike (91%). The most recent season even received a perfect 100% score from critics. There are currently no plans for Season 5 to be the last, so if the show remains popular and well-received, a sixth season is likely.

According to Movies and Munchies critic Chris Joyce, Rafe Spall and Esther Smith have fantastic on-screen chemistry, extending to the entire cast of Season 4. He notes that ‘Trying’ quickly captures viewers’ affection with its believable characters and delightful situations, succeeding from the very first episode without even needing to try.

You know, I was reading a review by Gissane Sophia over at Lady Geeks Media, and she really hit the nail on the head about Season 4 of Trying. She said it works so well because it really emphasizes how important marriage is, and how being in love is key to helping people become the best versions of themselves. It’s a really insightful take, and I totally agree!

The first four seasons of Trying are with Season 5 arriving on July 8, 2026.
