Henry Cavill Drops A Look At His Bad Highlander Injury As He Goes Through ‘Torment’ To Get Back In Shape, Boot And All

The filming of the much-anticipated Highlander reboot has been delayed. It was initially hoped that shooting would begin before the end of this year, but an injury sustained by lead actor Henry Cavill during preparation means production will now start in early 2026. Cavill recently shared a picture of his injured foot in a boot, describing the recovery process as “torment” as he works to get back into shape for Highlander.

Exactly how Cavill injured his leg remains a mystery, but he’s clearly putting in the work to ensure that he heals properly. That’s evidenced in the pictures he shared on Instagram of the physical therapy he’s going through, and The Witcher actor even threw in a deep-cut video game reference for good measure:

Dak’kon is a character in the 1999 video game Planescape: Torment, set within the Planescape multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons. Given Henry Cavill’s well-known enthusiasm for Warhammer 40,000 and other similar interests, it’s understandable that he used this quote with these photos. Previously, Cavill had posted the poem Invictus when he initially shared updates about his leg injury.

Everyone at TopMob is sending positive energy for Henry Cavill’s quick recovery. He needs to be in excellent physical condition to play Connor MacLeod in Highlander, a role he’s been officially committed to since 2023, though discussions about it began as early as 2021. Production on the reboot will begin once he finishes working on the live-action Voltron movie and Enola Holmes 3.

Similar to the classic 1986 film, the new Highlander tells the story of Connor, an Immortal born in the Scottish Highlands in the 1500s. He finds himself caught in a battle with other Immortals, all competing in the Gathering for a powerful Prize. Russell Crowe, who also appeared in Man of Steel, was the first actor cast after Henry Cavill, taking on the role of Ramirez, Connor’s guide and teacher. Dave Bautista joined the cast later as the main villain, The Kurgan, and yesterday news broke that Jeremy Irons will play a mysterious enemy leading a group known as The Watchers. The cast also includes Djimon Hounsou, Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Max Zhang and Drew McIntyre.

The upcoming Highlander reboot is being directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Michal Finch. Amazon-MGM, which now handles production after taking over from Lionsgate, hasn’t announced a release date yet. If Henry Cavill recovers well from his recent injuries, we can expect more concrete information about the film once filming officially begins at the start of next year.
