Teen mistakes police officer’s gun for a prop and fires it inside gaming center

A teenager at an entertainment center mistakenly thought a police officer’s gun was a prop and accidentally fired it after finding it on the floor.

I recently checked out Level 99 in D.C., and wow, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen! They call it an ‘adult playground,’ and that’s totally accurate. Basically, it’s a huge entertainment center where you can play all sorts of interactive games – stuff that tests both your physical skills and how well you think. Their website says it’s ‘real-world, interactive social gaming,’ and honestly, that’s a perfect description.

A police captain, who was off-duty, was playing at Level 99 when his personal gun fell during a game challenge. It wasn’t his service weapon issued by the police department.

The incident explained

The 14-year-old girl discovered a gun on the floor and, thinking it was a fake used by the entertainment venue, pulled the trigger.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident, as only a single shot was fired – and it hit a wall. The teenager involved asked for medical attention, but firefighters determined she didn’t need to be hospitalized.

It is not known how long the weapon had been lying on the ground before the teenager found it.

Authorities investigated what happened, but the officer hasn’t been charged with any crime. Since he wasn’t on duty and used his personal weapon, the police department hasn’t taken any internal action against him either.
