Final Fantasy XIV for Switch 2 “should run stably at 30fps” in towns with better performance elsewhere

Naoki Yoshida of Square Enix recently shared some information about how well Final Fantasy XIV is expected to run on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, in an interview with Famitsu.

We’ve translated the key details from a recent interview about the Evangelion collaboration and the new Nintendo Switch 2. In the interview, Naoki Yoshida talks about how the Switch 2’s ability to be played both on the go and docked opens up new gameplay possibilities, and that the system aims to maintain a stable 30 frames per second while playing in towns and cities.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is a fantastic console that offers flexible gaming options. You can connect it to your TV for a traditional home console experience, or take it on the go for portable play. This allows for unique gameplay – for instance, you could use a mouse and keyboard while docked for challenging raids, then switch to handheld mode for more relaxed activities like crafting and gathering. This versatility is what sets the Nintendo Switch 2 apart.

After the keynote, we saw some online concerns about how the game would perform, but we’ve done a lot of optimization work. During normal gameplay, it runs smoothly without any performance problems. It gets more demanding in crowded areas, but we expect it to maintain a stable 30 frames per second even there. Overall, performance is solid, so there’s no need to worry.
