The online trend ‘looksmaxxing‘ has become incredibly popular, even inspiring a short film featuring Sunny Suljic, known for his role in God of War.
The impact of strong collarbones is surprisingly widespread. The online trend of ‘looksmaxxing’ – where people intensely focus on improving their appearance, sometimes through drastic methods – has become so popular it’s now even being discussed in mainstream media, like the show The Pitt.
A short film called ‘Looksmaxxing’ is coming out soon. Here’s what we’ve learned about it so far.
Looksmaxxing short film reframes viral trend as body horror
‘Looksmaxxing’ is presented as a satirical take on internet trends, fame, and the pursuit of flawlessness. The story centers around a young man feeling unfulfilled who becomes consumed by the viral ‘looksmaxxing’ phenomenon.
This fixation sends him spiraling into a harmful cycle, mixing chilling psychological scares with bleak humor. The story also cleverly uses and reflects the look and feel of popular social media.
The new short film features Sunny Suljic, known for his role as Atreus, Kratos’ son, in the popular game God of War. Jerry Habibi also stars, and the film is directed by Elan Alexander. Zack Bia, John Terzian, Will Noyce, and Nick Buckwalter served as executive producers.
The film’s trailer is now available online and shows the main character, played by Suljic, intensely focused on improving his appearance. He’s seen looking at content related to ‘looksmaxxing,’ taking supplements, and even holding a meat tenderizer – a possible nod to the online trend known as ‘bonesmashing’.
The trailer concludes with Suljic dramatically showing off enhanced cheekbones created with makeup effects, and asking for someone’s opinion.
‘LOOKSMAXXING,’ a short film starring Sunny Suljic and Jerry Habibi, follows a young man struggling with a lack of motivation. He finds an online community that claims physical perfection can solve his problems, but his pursuit of this ideal leads him down a harmful and increasingly dangerous road.

Viewers are already very excited about this, and some are drawing comparisons to the horror film ‘The Substance.’
One commenter jokingly pointed out that Sunny Suljic doesn’t need to try to improve his appearance because his father is Christopher Judge, the actor famous for playing Kratos in ‘God of War’.
“Looksmaxxing does sound like body horror,” another admitted.
In a post on X, Suljic explained that the film neither supports nor condemns the “looksmaxxing” community or its ideas, describing it as a body horror-style look at modern society.
Looksmaxxing will premiere on April 28th in Los Angeles.
Surprisingly, Clavicular, the main face of this popular trend, recently had two of his YouTube channels shut down. YouTube had previously removed his content for linking to sites that sold prohibited or illegal items. He was also recently treated in the hospital after a reported drug overdose at a nightclub, and has since said he plans to stop using drugs.
