Alien: Earth Season 2’s Filming Start Window Confirmed By Noah Hawley As It Moves To Iconic Franchise Setting

Although there’s been some confusion about the start date, production for season 2 of Alien: Earth is now scheduled to begin within a specific timeframe.

Noah Hawley, known for his work on Legion and Fargo, created the FX series Alien: Earth, a prequel to Ridley Scott’s classic Alien films. The show begins with a deep space research ship crashing on Earth, bringing with it several dangerous alien creatures. Season 1 focused on both the cause of the crash and a group of unique beings – the first synthetic hybrids created to house the transferred consciousnesses of young people with terminal illnesses. Due to positive reviews and high ratings, a second season was confirmed in November 2025.

Noah Hawley, the Emmy-winning creator of Alien: Earth, recently shared updates with Deadline about season 2. He confirmed that filming will begin this summer, and that the team is nearly prepared to start. He also revealed the season will be filmed at Pinewood Studios in London – a significant change from the Thailand location used for season 1. Pinewood is famous as the filming location for the original Alien trilogy and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus.

I recently walked through the set construction area and saw the props and costumes coming together – it’s always a thrill. While we had a fantastic shoot in Thailand, we’ve decided London is a better base for the show going forward. It’s special that our Production Designer, Neil Lamont, actually worked on the original film as a teenager, and I love how deeply connected people are to this franchise. The British art department is world-renowned for tackling any challenge and delivering exceptional work immediately.

Hawley explained that the first season of Alien: Earth served as a test run for his broader plans for the series, allowing him to develop a workable production process. He hinted that season 2 will build upon the ideas introduced in the first season, describing it as a larger-scale production with more detailed world-building. He also revealed that much of the Alien series is already written, and he’s currently dividing his time between working on it and Far Cry.

Although the show had a strong start – becoming FX’s most-watched streaming premiere by the end of 2025 – season two of Alien: Earth faced some development delays. The studio took extra time to assess how many people were watching before deciding to renew it. However, Noah Hawley recently confirmed that filming will begin this summer, which matches earlier reports, including confirmation from executive producer Dana Gonzales who was working at Pinewood Studios in March.

The showrunner’s comments about unfinished scripts align with what actress Sydney Chandler told ScreenRant in March. She hadn’t received any scripts yet and was actively seeking updates on season 2 of Alien: Earth. Chandler also mentioned she’d like her character, Wendy, to interact more with the Lost Boys, especially since they were largely separated in season 1. The season ended with a hint that the Lost Boys would now be in charge of Neverland Island.

Now that filming has a tighter schedule, fans are wondering when season 2 of Alien: Earth will be released. Because the first season’s production was delayed by the 2023 actors’ and writers’ strikes, it took over two years – and more than seven months of actual filming – to finally premiere. If season 2 takes a similar amount of time to make, it probably won’t be available until early 2028.
