Yes, at midnight on October 1, 2025, all eight seasons of Full House were removed from HBO Max. 

The sitcom, famous for launching the careers of child actors Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, was created by ABC. However, HBO Max obtained the rights to stream the show in October 2021, after those rights had ended with Hulu.

As the saying goes, everything good eventually ends. Agreements to show classic TV programs are usually short-term. The rights to these shows frequently change hands between streaming services every few years, as companies compete to offer popular, feel-good content and expand what they offer.

It’s happened before: When Friends moved from Netflix to become exclusive to HBO Max in 2020, it caused a lot of online frustration. Similarly, The Office became available only on Peacock in the US in 2021.

However, this doesn’t lessen the disappointment for fans, particularly because information about contract renewals and endings isn’t shared as openly as news about new products or content.

Full House fans slam “heartbreaking” removal 

Viewers of Full House were surprised and disappointed when they discovered the show had been taken off of HBO Max late at night. Many fans were upset by the unexpected removal.

“I can’t believe Full House is being removed, it’s truly upsetting,” one Reddit user expressed. Another commenter hoped, “Maybe it will be available on a different streaming service that I subscribe to.”

Someone posted on a different discussion that Full House is their favorite show to relax with. They’ve watched it nightly for the past two years, but recently HBO Max stopped playing it. Now, when they search for the show on the app, it doesn’t appear at all. They haven’t been able to find any information online explaining why it was taken down.

Someone else said, “My daughter noticed it stopped working and the screen displayed a message about a ‘connection issue’. I saw this post and checked, and we’re experiencing the same problem now.”

Another user mentioned that several other Warner Bros. series were also taken down today, such as Step by Step, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, and Gotham.

Many fans have commented that they plan to keep growing their collections of physical media. This is just one more sign of the increasing number of people going back to DVDs and Blu-rays because streaming services are constantly changing which movies and shows they offer.

One person shared, “I just came home from work and turned on Full House, and I’m really disappointed.” They added, “This might actually make me start purchasing DVDs and Blu-rays again. So, perhaps it’s not all bad.”

Hulu first obtained the rights to stream the sitcom in 2017, but those rights eventually ran out. Later, Disney acquired a controlling interest in Hulu, and ultimately took complete ownership. Considering that ABC is owned by Disney, it’s logical that the show would now be available on Hulu. 

However, Disney recently faced criticism because of the temporary suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which reportedly resulted in 1.7 million people canceling their paid streaming subscriptions.

Although Jimmy Kimmel’s show is back on the air, some people who stopped watching may continue to boycott it. If you’re one of those people, the best way to enjoy Full House is by watching it on DVD or purchasing it digitally through on-demand services.
