Netflix Releases First 6 Minutes of Stranger Things: Tales from ’85

This week marks the beginning of a new story in the world of Stranger Things with the premiere of its animated spinoff. Netflix has released a longer preview of the series to give fans a first look.

A new video offers a sneak peek at the first six minutes of the premiere episode, “Welcome to Hawkins, New Kid.” It introduces Nikki Baxter, a new character voiced by Odessa A’zion, known for her role in Marty Supreme. Nikki will be joining beloved characters from the live-action show as they face fresh dangers in Hawkins after the gate to the Upside Down was shut. You can watch the video below.

Head Back to Hawkins for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85

According to showrunner Eric Robles, while the monsters are a big draw in Stranger Things, the new series, Tales From ’85, is really about the characters and their development. He aimed to create a complete and satisfying story arc for them from start to finish.

The animated spinoff features the return of beloved characters, though with new voice actors. You’ll hear Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Alessandra Antonelli as Nancy, Jeremy Jordan as Steve, and Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven. A new preview also shows appearances by familiar faces like Karen, voiced by Alysia Reiner, and Hopper, voiced by Brett Gipson.

Robles explains that the show’s long-running characters have a strong, established bond, and that connection is really felt by the audience. The writers’ main goal was to stay true to the crew’s story and their efforts to uncover the mysteries in Hawkins, and then naturally integrate exciting creatures into that existing narrative.

A New Threat Has Arrived in Hawkins

In the winter of 1985, the town is covered in snow and the terrifying events connected to the Upside Down seem to be lessening. Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max are trying to enjoy a normal life, filled with games, snowball fights, and peaceful days. However, a new threat emerges, and the group must investigate its origins – is it connected to the Upside Down, Hawkins Lab, or something else entirely? This new story, set within the world of Stranger Things, follows their race to solve the mystery and protect their town.

I was really sad when the main show finished after five seasons last year, but it’s amazing to see the world of Stranger Things keep growing! We’ve already gotten a new animated series, and the stage play, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, was incredible – it even won Olivier and Tony awards! I also had a blast at the Stranger Things: Face the Dark immersive experience at Netflix House Dallas. And it sounds like Netflix is planning even more spin-off shows in the future, which I’m really excited about!
