Johnny Somali is appealing a six-month prison sentence in South Korea, which includes forced labor. He remains in a detention center while awaiting another trial, and describes the conditions there as extremely difficult.
Johnny Somali, whose real name is Ramsey Khalid Ismael, became famous for his often disruptive streams broadcast from Korea, gaining international attention for the trouble he caused.
He was convicted on April 14th of interfering with businesses and sharing deepfake content. As a result, and following his deportation, he will be required to register as a sex offender in the United States.
His deportation is now likely delayed because he’s appealed his prison sentence. Legal professionals say this appeal will likely mean he serves significantly more time in prison – essentially doubling his original sentence.

Johnny Somali’s detention center “hell” conditions revealed
These detention centers are reportedly horrific, even worse than traditional prisons. Conditions are extremely cramped, with six people often sharing a single cell. Access to basic necessities is severely limited – showers are only provided once a week, meals consist of just rice and soup, and outdoor time is restricted to 30 minutes every other Saturday. There is also no air conditioning, making the environment even more unbearable.
Even after he completes his sentence, he’ll remain at the detention center while his appeal is processed, and that process could take more than a year.
Even though the time he spends in jail while appealing his case will be credited towards his total sentence, he might still end up serving a longer time overall, even if his appeal wins.

We need to wait and see how the appeal process goes and when the streamer will be allowed back into the U.S.
His experience in Korea has become a real struggle. After being pursued and knocked out by a former Special Forces soldier who now makes videos online, he’s now facing issues with a detention center.
It’s really frustrating to see another creator getting into trouble while traveling. I remember when Vitaly got stuck in the Philippines for almost a year! Apparently, he caused a lot of problems – everything from bothering people and stealing to making unwanted advances and even trying to take a security guard’s weapon. It was a whole mess, and he ended up being sent back to Russia. It just shows you need to be respectful when you’re visiting another country.
