Teen’s toe amputated after destroying ‘possessed’ statue of Dopey from Snow White

A teen in Mexico lost part of his toe after he broke a statue of Dopey, one of the Seven Dwarfs from Disney’s Snow White. Local residents believed the statue was haunted.

Located in Torreón, Mexico, the Venustiano Carranza Forest is a well-loved city park where people go to play sports, enjoy rides, and relax. It recently became known for something a little strange: a statue of Dopey, one of the dwarfs from Snow White.

The statue was both admired and dreaded by locals, who whispered it was haunted. Stories circulated that it would mysteriously move and change positions, drawing many ghost hunters and paranormal researchers to the area over time.

Shortly after 1 AM on April 9, 2026, 18-year-old Axel Rosas was in the park after closing time and tried to climb the Dopey statue, also known as ‘Tontín’ in Mexico. While climbing, the statue tipped over due to his weight and broke off at the base.

A heavy object landed on Rosas’ foot, severely injuring his toe. Doctors had to partially amputate it as a result. Fortunately, people nearby called for emergency assistance, but the injury was already extensive.

Locals remember beloved ‘Dopey’ statue

People in the area are honoring Tontín, the beloved cartoon character who used to ‘guard’ the park, by leaving gifts where he stood as a tribute to his memory.

Amos Rosas posted photos on Facebook of a small memorial created at the location where Tontín, a beloved figure in the Torreón forest, passed away. She wrote a farewell message, saying she hoped the memorial would bring him peace and wishing him a final goodnight, calling him a “sweet prince.”

“Nooo, Tontiiin! RIP, rest in peace with the little angels,” a commenter wrote.

Someone else jokingly commented that it was a relief he hadn’t left without a fight, and that he’d gotten a taste of blood before retreating. They added that he’d definitely be back for revenge.

Even though Tontín was known for being independent, the statue that was said to be haunted was clearly cherished by people in the town. It’s currently unclear whether the local government will put up a new statue to replace it.

Urban legends say ‘Dopey’ statue moved by itself at night

I remember growing up hearing stories about Tontín – everyone said he used to roam the park at night! The rumor was he’d actually follow people with his gaze, which was pretty creepy! It’s sad he’s gone, but those stories definitely made him a legend.

A YouTuber named Yokuma Lvnnt shared a video of his nighttime visit to the park. In the video, he spoke with a park employee about any strange experiences they might have had.

The employee stated they’d never actually seen anything moving around, but acknowledged that the wind often creates unusual sounds, adding to the unsettling feeling at night.
