A new actor has joined the cast, and their appearance might significantly impact the upcoming crossover event. Marvel Studios revealed the initial cast for their next Avengers movie over a year ago, but many fans suspected the list wasn’t final. Even with a large cast already set to face off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom later this year, there was still potential for additions.
Emma Furhmann, who plays Cassie Lang, recently shared a post on Instagram on April 17th. This is her second time playing the superhero, following her first appearance in the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Her return is a significant development for the upcoming Doomsday project, and adds to the growing list of characters involved. With Cassie Lang confirmed, fans are speculating that another famous superhero team might appear in the event.
Cassie Lang’s Return Sets Up the Young Avengers in Avengers: Doomsday
With Kathryn Newton returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s almost certain we’ll soon see the Young Avengers team assemble. Over the past few phases of Marvel movies and shows, there have been hints about a new generation of heroes – many of them the children of established Avengers. These plans were officially confirmed in the post-credits scene of 2023’s The Marvels, where Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) expressed interest in forming a new team and even mentioned recruiting Cassie Lang.
It’s been almost three years since The Marvels, and we haven’t heard much about when the Young Avengers will officially appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many fans thought we wouldn’t see the team until after the current Multiverse Saga ends in 2027, possibly even in 2028. But with Cassie Lang now confirmed to return, it looks like the Young Avengers might show up much sooner than expected.
Even if they don’t have a major part to play, the Young Avengers might finally team up during the upcoming Doomsday event. With the main Avengers preoccupied with a multiversal battle, the younger heroes could step up to protect Earth from any dangers that arise. The Avengers would likely rely on the more experienced members of the Young Avengers – like Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan – to lead the team while they’re busy fighting Doctor Doom.
If the Young Avengers appear in Avengers: Doomsday, it would mark the fifth superhero team featured in the movie. Two Avengers groups are already set to have significant roles, with one joining forces with Bucky Barnes’s New Avengers. They’ll be alongside teams from alternate realities, including the X-Men from Earth-10005 and the Fantastic Four from Earth-828. This makes Doomsday the largest Marvel Cinematic Universe event ever, bringing five unique teams together in live-action for the first time.
Will the Young Avengers Get Their Own Movie or TV Series in the MCU?
While it won’t be released for a while after Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is taking a different approach with the Young Avengers. Instead of including them in a larger crossover event, they’re getting their own dedicated series on Disney+. This project has been in the works for years, but details like the official title and release date haven’t been announced yet.
There’s been talk that the team might even get a new name, possibly “Champions.” Details are limited, but it would make sense considering Marvel has been building towards this for a while. Fans are expecting some kind of result soon, ideally before the Avengers: Secret Wars movie.
Even before their own show on Disney+, members of the Young Avengers are likely to appear in a different Marvel project coming out in late 2026. This series will follow Vision, played by Paul Bettany, as he explores who he is. It’s a continuation of the stories told in WandaVision and Agatha All Along, which both introduced characters who could potentially become part of the Young Avengers. It’s likely this new series, Vision Quest, will also begin to set up the team’s future.
After 2026, Marvel fans will learn much more about the Young Avengers. The storylines in Vision Quest and Avengers: Doomsday will likely pave the way for a Disney+ series focused on the team. Though it’s unclear who else will join Cassie Lang in Avengers 5, expect to see appearances from other future Young Avengers members.
Who Will Be a Part of the MCU’s Young Avengers?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is building a team of young heroes, and already has a lot of potential members. Currently, Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) is set to lead the group, with Kate Bishop (Hawkeye) and Cassie Lang (Stature) also confirmed. Several other new heroes seem likely to join them.
Fans believe Tommy and Billy Maximoff, the twin sons of Wanda and Vision from WandaVision, are strong contenders to become members of the Young Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Billy has already begun to follow in his mother’s footsteps, displaying magical abilities as Wiccan. Meanwhile, Tommy, who will appear in the Vision Quest series, is expected to become the superhero known as Speed.
America Chavez will likely reappear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. Despite not being seen for four years, her ability to travel across the multiverse makes another appearance inevitable, especially before this storyline concludes. Having assisted the Avengers against Doctor Doom, her powers could be very helpful to the Young Avengers in their upcoming adventures.
We’ve already met a few characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who are expected to play bigger roles in the future. One example is Skaar, the son of the Hulk, who was introduced in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Another is Ezekiel Bradley, the son of the original Captain America, Isaiah Bradley, who first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and may become the hero Patriot, just like in the comics.
Even though her Disney+ show didn’t get great reviews, Ironheart is still expected to become a key member of the Young Avengers. The animated series Marvel Zombies intentionally paired her with Ms. Marvel and Kate Bishop, hinting that these three characters could become the leaders of the Young Avengers – similar to how some teams have a core trio of powerful members.
Fans are excited about the Young Avengers joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we now have a likely timeframe for their debut. Before getting their own Disney+ show, this new team of heroes might first appear alongside established Avengers in the upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
