Netflix’s XO, Kitty Does 1 Thing Better Than Bridgerton

Netflix has become a go-to for popular romance and romantic comedy series, consistently topping streaming charts. Shows like Virgin River and Bridgerton have proven to be huge hits with fans of the genre. Recently, however, one series has been gaining even more attention and could become Netflix’s next big romance sensation.

XO, Kitty is a new show that continues the story of Kitty Song-Covey, who viewers first met as Lara Jean’s little sister in the To All the Boys movies – she’s the one who secretly mailed out Lara Jean’s love letters! Like Bridgerton, the series centers on a member of the Song-Covey family, but this teen romantic comedy might be even more successful.

XO, Kitty and Bridgerton Share Many Similarities

The series stars Anna Cathcart as Kitty Song-Covey. Kitty spends her junior year of high school studying in South Korea at the Korean Independent School of Seoul—the same school her mother attended. She hopes to connect with her mother’s memory, as her mother passed away when Kitty was very young.

Kitty is eager to visit South Korea for another reason too: her boyfriend, Dae. He’s a student at the Korean Independent School of Seoul, often called KISS. However, when Kitty arrives, she discovers Dae is already dating someone else at school – a girl named Yuri.

As a total rom-com fan, I’m really enjoying XO, Kitty. It’s pure, lighthearted fun – a little cheesy, yes, but that’s part of the charm! What’s great is it hits a lot of the same notes as Bridgerton – you’ve got fake dating, that delicious enemies-to-lovers tension, all that good stuff. But honestly, what really connects these two shows for me is the focus on family, specifically the sibling dynamic. It adds a really sweet layer to the drama.

XO, Kitty is a continuation of the popular To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series, with Lana Condor reprising her role as Lara Jean Song-Covey. Similar to Bridgerton, both it and To All the Boys are based on books by author Jenny Han. XO, Kitty expands on the story by focusing on one of Lara Jean’s siblings.

One appealing aspect of Bridgerton is that each season centers around a different sibling finding love. This is similar to the To All the Boys movies, which follow the middle sister, Lara Jean, as she navigates romance. The spin-off series, XO, Kitty, then shifts the focus to the youngest sister and her own love story.

What’s really cool about XO, Kitty is how well it ties into the previous movies, bringing back familiar characters. Many Bridgerton viewers have noticed that Daphne, the oldest Bridgerton sister and the focus of the first season, hasn’t been seen on the show since Season 2.

Francesca was particularly vulnerable, especially after her husband, John, passed away. It seemed like a moment when Daphne would naturally support her sister, although travel was much more difficult during the Regency period than it is today.

XO, Kitty Manages to Bring Back Beloved Characters

The show XO, Kitty cleverly maintains a connection to the To All the Boys movies by including familiar faces. Kitty’s dad and his partner, Trina (who first appeared in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You), both return. Season 2 takes it a step further with the return of Noah Centineo as Peter Kavinsky and Janel Parrish as Margot Song-Covey.

Season 3 of XO, Kitty, released on April 2, 2026, delighted fans by featuring Lana Condor reprising her role as Lara Jean. She appears in a few key moments throughout the season, offering support to Kitty when she needs it most. Though brief, these appearances effectively tie the series back to its roots.

Even when her siblings aren’t shown, Kitty frequently talks about them and mentions conversations happening in a group chat. While this isn’t realistic for the time period of Bridgerton, referencing communication through letters would at least remind the audience of their family bond – something the show does really well.

XO, Kitty successfully juggles the story of a new sibling with welcome cameos from familiar faces like the Song-Coveys and even Peter Kavinsky. While it’s understandable that scheduling made it difficult, fans definitely miss seeing Lana Condor in the series.

Although Bridgerton and XO, Kitty appear quite different, they actually have a lot in common. Both are romance stories – Bridgerton geared towards adults and XO, Kitty as a teen comedy – but they share key elements, and the connection between siblings is a recurring theme across both shows.

Although Season 4 of XO, Kitty hasn’t been officially confirmed, many viewers are hoping it happens. The show has been popular, and a lot of fans would also love to see a movie or series about the oldest Song-Covey sister, Margot, to round out the entire story.

XO, Kitty is available to stream on Netflix.
