Just three weeks after its release, the movie Project Hail Mary has already earned more money at the box office than The Martian did.
The new sci-fi movie starring Ryan Gosling opened to a strong start, bringing in $80 million in the US and Canada and $141 million globally. This marks the biggest opening weekend ever for a film from Amazon MGM.
After just four weeks in cinemas, Project Hail Mary has earned $229 million in North America, exceeding the domestic total of The Martian. Worldwide, however, Project Hail Mary trails behind The Martian, with $433 million compared to the latter’s $630 million.
Both movies are based on novels by Andy Weir.
