The X-Men’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting to take shape, and it’s happening faster than many expected. While we still have questions – some of which will be addressed in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday – more details are being revealed as the December release date approaches.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m getting really excited! It sounds like things are finally starting to come together for the X-Men’s big screen debut. Apparently, the director of the upcoming Thunderbolts is involved in shaping their future, and we’re even hearing names for who might play Rogue and Beast! It’s great to see some potential casting choices emerging – it feels like the project is really gaining momentum.
Okay, so it’s not official yet, but whispers are getting louder about the X-Men’s first MCU movie. Jason Schreier has reported the script is still being worked on, and now Jeff Sneider is saying they’re looking at Odessa A’zion – you might recognize her from “Marty Supreme” – to play Rogue. Apparently, Peter Claffey, who was great as Ser Duncan the Tall in that “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” series, is also a strong contender for Beast. It’s very early days, but these two names are definitely gaining traction.
Anna Paquin and Kelsey Grammar originally played these roles, with Nicholas Hoult (who will be Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s DC Universe) taking over later.

It’s important to remember this information isn’t official, and Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed it yet. However, it’s worth noting because the source, Sneider, has accurately reported casting news in the past.
Okay, so the buzz is really interesting – apparently, Sadie Sink is being talked about as a possible Jean Grey in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day! It’s exciting to think they might even bring back some of the classic X-Men cast, like James Marsden as Cyclops, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, and even Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X. It’s all speculation right now, but a potential reunion like that would be amazing!
A’zion, who has worked with stars like Gwyneth Paltrow and Timothée Chalamet, and Claffey, recently known for his role in the Game of Thrones spin-off, would be excellent choices for the roles. Fans are excited about this potential casting, hoping they won’t simply repeat what’s been done before, and are pleased to see the characters’ costumes staying true to the original comics.
Schreier explained they’re hoping for a revitalized approach, something that feels brand new. He said Kevin Feige has been a strong advocate for exploring the full potential of the existing universe. ‘It’s such a vast world,’ Schreier added, ‘and I’ve spent the last year revisiting a lot of the source material, including all of Chris Claremont’s work and the incredible contributions of Grant Morrison.’
The X-Men Are Back, But They’re Not Going Backwards
The story will kick off with Avengers: Doomsday, but even more crucial is whether Schreier and Marvel Studios can meet – or even surpass – the incredibly high hopes fans have for a satisfying conclusion to the original X-Men’s story, a story fans have been requesting for years after its beginnings at 20th Century Fox.
Schreier understands the most important thing is to make an excellent film. However, from the beginning, they’ve also been considering future possibilities – looking at storylines from the comics, exploring underused ideas, and figuring out where the story could go next.
He wants to thoroughly explore the original content and consider unique approaches. He believes there are always fresh ideas to discover through discussion.
The selection of actors for the next X-Men movie is facing a lot of attention, especially after popular cast members like Halle Berry (Storm) and Famke Janssen (Jean Grey) revealed they weren’t asked to reprise their roles, which many fans believe should have happened.
