Production is well underway on Man of Tomorrow, the sequel to the 2025 Superman film, which is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. The script is finished, the creative team is assembled, and the cast is growing – notably with Lars Eidinger joining as the classic DC villain Brainiac in his first big-screen role. Brainiac is a formidable opponent, suggesting Superman and the Justice League will face a significant challenge to defeat him.
I’m really excited to hear that Man of Tomorrow is introducing Maxima, the queen from the planet Almerac! I’ve heard Adria Arjona, who I loved in Andor, is being considered for the part. James Gunn says it won’t be a huge role, but even with limited screen time, I have a feeling Maxima is going to be a powerful presence in the film. I can’t wait to see what they do with her!

I’ve been following Maxima’s story since she first showed up in DC Comics, and it was a wild ride! She used to be kind of a troublemaker, giving everyone a hard time, but she really changed. It was awesome to see the Justice League accept her, and she became a huge help in battles, even against someone as powerful as Doomsday. Now that the DCU is rebooting, I’m not sure if she’ll go back to her old ways, but I’m hopeful. She’s surrounded by so many good people who can keep her on the right path.
Justice League Members Already Present in the DCU
Superman

The first film in the DC Universe showed that Superman is incredibly strong, but he can’t rely on brute force alone. As the challenges he faces become more significant, Superman will likely need to follow Maxwell Lord’s example and create a team of superheroes.
Batman

Gunn and Co. haven’t chosen an actor to play Batman yet, and they’re taking their time because the upcoming The Brave and the Bold movie is still in early development. However, Batman himself doesn’t like to wait, so he’s already making his presence known in the DC Universe, intimidating criminals throughout Gotham City.
Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman hasn’t had a major role in Warner Bros.’ new DC Universe yet, unlike some other heroes. Her only appearance so far was briefly as a corpse in a scene from Creature Commandos. However, James Gunn has confirmed that Wonder Woman is still planned for the future, and a solo movie starring the character is already being developed.
Hawkgirl

The show Superman introduced the Justice Gang, who teamed up with Superman to protect Jarhanpur from an attack by Boravia. However, Hawkgirl took a more violent approach, killing Vasil Ghurkos by throwing him from a high place. If Kendra Saunders wants to become a member of the Justice League like her comic book version, she’ll need to change her ways.
Mr. Terrific

While his teammates were rescuing people in Jarhanpur, Mr. Terrific remained in Metropolis to close a dangerous dimensional rift that could have destroyed the world. The incredibly intelligent hero handled the situation with ease and developed strong relationships with both Superman and Krypto. Because of this, Superman will definitely rely on Terrific when assembling the Justice League.
Guy Gardner

Even though Guy Gardner is a Green Lantern, he’s often difficult and annoying. In the Superman storyline, Lois Lane had to push him to actually help, and he even tried to claim the victory as his own. With so many other capable Green Lanterns out there, Gardner needs to drastically improve his behavior if he wants to earn a permanent place at the Watchtower.
Supergirl

Okay, so Supergirl, or Kara Zor-El, isn’t exactly hitting her stride as a hero right now. Honestly, she seems way more interested in having fun than, you know, actually being a hero, which is frustrating her cousin, Superman. But this new solo movie? I think it’s a brilliant move. It’s a chance for her to really step up, prove what she’s capable of, and finally become the hero we all know she can be. I’m excited to see her take that journey!
Lobo

It’s surprising, but the space-faring mercenary Lobo was actually a member of the Justice League in the comics. He’s generally a loner, and the way Supergirl’s marketing portrays him in the DC Universe reinforces that image. Still, with Jason Momoa playing the role, Lobo could be shown in a completely new light.
Hal Jordan

The first look at HBO’s Lanterns doesn’t paint Hal Jordan in a very flattering light. He comes across as grumpy and constantly criticizes his new partner. However, there’s likely a heroic side to Kyle Chandler’s character, one that could eventually place him among DC’s greatest heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
John Stewart

Even though John Stewart’s mentor likely wouldn’t want to join a team, John himself would definitely be open to the idea. The new Green Lantern will be back in Man of Tomorrow after first appearing in Lanterns. He’ll have ample opportunity to learn from and build a good relationship with his mentor.
Mr. Miracle

James Gunn has consistently stated that the animated shows in the DC Universe will be connected to the live-action movies and series. This means characters like Mr. Miracle, who will star in his own animated show produced by Warner Bros. Animation, could appear in both formats. He’d be a valuable addition to the Justice League, as he possesses a very powerful skillset.
Big Barda

Big Barda is a constant companion to Mister Miracle, appearing both in comics and on screen. However, she’s also a powerful hero in her own right, demonstrated by her courage to leave Granny Goodness and the Female Furies to create her own destiny. Should the threats of Apokolips emerge in the DC Universe, Big Barda has the potential to be a vital teammate for Superman and the other heroes.
