Originally planned as a series, this movie shifted gears and delivers a visually stunning experience thanks to its big budget and impressive special effects. He hires Fei-Hung to help, not realizing that taking out the Northern Sea could lead to the creation of an even more powerful new group.

As a huge fan of martial arts movies, I’m always looking for a good action flick, and I was really impressed by this one! It’s completely free to watch on YouTube, which is a fantastic bonus. Sammo Hung is brilliant as the villain, and Eddie Peng truly embodies the legendary hero – the fight scenes are just phenomenal. Honestly, the film is so well-made, technically speaking, that it could easily have been Hong Kong’s entry for the Oscars. Definitely worth checking out!

‘Kundo: Age of the Rampant’ (2014)

As a huge movie fan, I recently stumbled upon this awesome South Korean film called Kundo: Age of the Rampant, and I’m surprised more people haven’t seen it! It stars Ha Jung-woo and Gang Dong-won, and it’s set way back in the 19th century during the Joseon dynasty. Basically, it’s a really exciting story about the classic conflict between the rich and the poor. You’ve got these powerful, greedy nobles, and then a band of outlaws who are like the Korean version of Robin Hood – stealing from the corrupt to help those in need. It’s a fantastic action movie!

If you enjoy stories like Robin Hood, you won’t want to miss this movie. It’s a critically acclaimed South Korean film, having won awards for its beautiful visuals and score. Ha Jung-woo gives a fantastic performance as the main character, and it makes sense considering his previous work in thrilling films like The Chaser and The Yellow Sea. You can watch it here.

‘The Great Battle’ (2019)

The Great Battle is a South Korean action movie set during a historical conflict. It stars Jo In-Sung, Nam Joo-hyuk, and Park Sung-woong, and was directed by Kim Kwang-sik. The film tells the story of the 88-day defense of Ansi Fortress, where General Yang Manchun (played by In-sung) led a small army against an enormous invading force of 500,000 soldiers from the Tang dynasty. As with many historical dramas, the actual events were even more incredible than the story suggests.

While the movie isn’t very historically accurate, it’s a thrilling action spectacle that lives up to its name. It features stunning visuals, using dramatic slow-motion and a quick-moving story to create a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The actors also deliver strong performances, likely earning awards recognition, including potential wins for Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actor. Definitely worth a watch!
