Now that some time has passed, the actress who played the Thirteenth Doctor has spoken about her experience revisiting the role. She shared what specifically made her happy about reprising her part, and also talked about the possibility of appearing in the show again sometime down the line.
Jodie Whittaker recently discussed a variety of subjects with The Times, including a surprising detail about her guest appearance in the Doctor Who episode, “The Reality War.” Although her return as The Doctor was short, the actress mentioned how reassuring it was that her original costume still fit her perfectly, just as it had when she filmed her regeneration scene:
I was really pleased my costume still fit! As soon as I arrived in Cardiff – the main place where we film – I immediately felt at home, even though it was a new studio and a different TARDIS. It’s simply pure joy being part of Doctor Who.
It’s wonderful to hear her positive thoughts on coming back to Doctor Who, considering all the challenges the show experienced during her time as The Doctor. I’m glad, as a fan, that she enjoyed being back and maybe finally received the appreciation and praise she deserved, which she didn’t always get while she was playing the role.
However, even though Jodie Whittaker had a wonderful experience, would she repeat it? Actually, Whittaker answered immediately, and I really appreciate her honesty:
If someone told me twenty years from now, ‘I’ve written a story and the Thirteenth Doctor returns,’ I wouldn’t even think twice. It’s pure joy. It’s simply wonderful.
It’s become common to hear David Tennant, Matt Smith, and Peter Capaldi carefully avoid directly answering if they’d return. So it’s great to hear Jodie Whittaker clearly state she’d be eager to come back to Doctor Who. Hopefully, the writers will remember this and find a way to include her in future episodes.
