‘Escape Plan’: Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone’s First Action Movie Together is Streaming for Free on Pluto TV

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone are two of the biggest names in action movies, starring in huge franchises like Rambo, The Terminator, The Expendables, and Predator. When these ’80s icons teamed up for one action thriller, the movie wasn’t a hit with critics and didn’t do well in theaters, killing any chance of a sequel—at least for a while. However, the film has since gained a dedicated following and is now available to watch for free.

Action movie fans got a treat in 2013 when Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone starred together in the often-overlooked film Escape Plan. The movie follows Ray Breslin (Stallone), a security expert who breaks out of prisons to test their weaknesses. However, when he takes a job at an incredibly secure offshore facility, he discovers the owners never plan to release him. His only hope for freedom lies in an unlikely alliance with fellow prisoner Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger), but they’re constantly thwarted by the ruthless warden Hobbes (Jim Caviezel). The cast also includes 50 Cent, Sam Neill, Amy Ryan, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Pluto TV recently added the action movie Escape Plan to its free, ad-supported streaming service. You don’t even need an account to watch! Escape Plan joined other popular action films like From Dusk Till Dawn, The Raid, Road House, and Starship Troopers on April 1st. It will be available on Pluto TV throughout April before being removed from the platform.

‘Escape Plan’ Has Two Terrible Sequels That You Probably Didn’t Know About

Although many fans enjoy it, Escape Plan isn’t without its problems. The dialogue is predictably corny for a movie starring Stallone and Schwarzenegger, and some of the action sequences are unintentionally funny. It didn’t impress critics or audiences when it was released, earning a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This resulted in a worldwide box office of $137 million, with a production budget of around $50 million. While not a complete failure, it wasn’t a blockbuster success either.

It’s honestly baffling to me, but somehow after the first Escape Plan didn’t really take off, someone in Hollywood thought there was a demand for more! They made Escape Plan 2: Hades in 2018, and it did even worse than the original. They even replaced Schwarzenegger with Dave Bautista as Stallone’s partner! It only got a 7% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – terrible! But unbelievably, someone still greenlit another movie! Escape Plan: The Extractors came out just a year later, and while it was a little better (getting 25% on Rotten Tomatoes), it’s nowhere near being one of Stallone’s classic action series.

‘Escape Plan’ Is a Shamelessly Machismo Action Flick

Don’t expect this movie to be life-changing, but if you’re looking for a simple, exciting action film – the kind your uncle might call a ‘real man’s movie’ – then Escape Plan is perfectly fun. Just skip the follow-up movies.
