After a four-year hiatus, HBO’s hit show Euphoria is back for a third season. The new season jumps forward five years, showing Rue, Nate, Cassie, and other characters navigating life after high school. Getting season 3 made wasn’t easy – production was slowed down by the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the heartbreaking loss of actor Angus Cloud, and the busy schedules of the now-famous cast. But despite all the challenges, the wait is finally over.
So, what about the future of the show? Well, it’s a bit up in the air. I read in Variety that Sam Levinson, the creator of Euphoria, basically writes each season as if it’s the finale. He’s saying he doesn’t have any plans for a fourth season right now, which is kinda wild! As a fan, it’s a little scary, but I guess he wants to keep things fresh and not drag it out.
I’m really pushing to make this season the best it can be. I’m still trimming episodes seven and eight to keep things tight, and I’m adding those final polish touches. Honestly, I just want to deliver a truly amazing season – one that really knocks everyone’s socks off!
Levinson hasn’t confirmed that Season 3 will be the last of Euphoria, but he’s not promising a Season 4 either. Considering what the actors and crew have said overall, it seems likely that the show might be ending soon.
Euphoria Could Continue Beyond Season 3 (But Probably Won’t)
Zendaya hinted during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show that the third season of Euphoria might be its last, although she wasn’t definitive. She said, “I think so, yeah,” adding that she feels the show is heading towards a natural ending.
HBO executive Francesca Orsi has hinted that the current season of Euphoria may be its last, though she hasn’t confirmed anything definitively. She stated in February that while discussions about ending the show have taken place, nothing is final. Orsi also expressed confidence that viewers will find the current season satisfying and that each character’s story will receive a proper conclusion.
It appears Euphoria may be ending after its third season, but if so, the show will be remembered for its significant cultural impact. It became incredibly popular with young audiences and launched the careers of several actors, including Jacob Elordi (known for Wuthering Heights), Sydney Sweeney (The Housemaid), Hunter Schafer (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Colman Domingo (Rustin), and Zendaya. Zendaya was already well-known, but her success has grown even further with roles in films like Dune and Challengers.
In the upcoming third season, Rue will be trying to pay back a debt to a drug dealer named Laurie, while Nate and Cassie are married and living in the suburbs. Jules is now an art teacher, and Maddy is working at a talent agency in Hollywood. The season kicks off on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, April 12th, with new episodes released weekly until all eight have aired.
