The fifth and final season of The Boys has begun streaming on Prime Video. Creator Eric Kripke is understandably nervous about how viewers will react to the series finale, even though it won’t air for several weeks.
It’s incredibly difficult to wrap up a popular TV show, as the endings to series like Game of Thrones and Stranger Things proved – some fans were so unhappy with Stranger Things that they even created a conspiracy theory about it!
It’s going to be interesting to see how ‘The Boys’ unfolds, as the TV show is based on the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, but it deviates from the original story more than shows like ‘Invincible’.
We know Season 5 will include character deaths, but the ultimate fate of the story remains a mystery – even those previewing the season weren’t shown the final episode.
The Boys Season 5 finale has Eric Kripke feeling “anxious”
Eric Kripke, the showrunner for The Boys, told The Hollywood Reporter he’s particularly anxious about the series finale, as it could significantly impact how viewers remember the entire show.
When asked about the fifth and final season, Kripke admitted he wasn’t ‘excited,’ but rather ‘anxious’ to ensure they finish the show strongly. He explained he really hopes they can deliver a satisfying conclusion.
Creating a series finale is incredibly difficult. Fans often re-evaluate the entire show based on their impression of the ending. If the finale doesn’t satisfy them, they might decide the show wasn’t as good as they originally believed.
It feels like I’m really trying to make sure these final episodes are remembered. This is actually the first time I’ve ever worked on a series finale, so I’m pretty nervous and trying to prepare myself as best I can.

The fifth season of The Boys includes a self-referential joke acknowledging the difficulty of ending a TV series. Despite excitement for the finale, creator Eric Kripke intentionally avoided making it overly long.
When Collider asked if episode 8 would be longer than usual, creator Eric Kripke confirmed it wouldn’t be. He said the episode will be around an hour and five minutes long, but they aren’t planning any of the extended 90-minute episodes.
We probably wouldn’t have held the audience’s attention if the episodes had been much longer. We aim for about an hour and five minutes, maybe an hour and six at the most. And yes, each episode is really full of content.
Based on the first two episodes released today and estimates from showrunner Eric Kripke and leaker Cryptic4KQual, here are the expected runtimes for Season 5 of The Boys:
- Episode 1 – 1 hour
- Episode 2 – 59 Minutes
- Episode 3 – 1 hour 2 minutes
- Episode 4 – 1 hour 2 minutes
- Episode 5 – 1 hour 5 minutes
- Episode 6 – 1 hour 1 minute
- Episode 7 – 1 hour 6 minutes
- Episode 8 – 1 hour 5 minutes
Kripke says “the world out-crazies” The Boys

I was really fascinated by what Kripke said about Season 5 of The Boys. He mentioned they’re really doubling down on the political satire, and it’s honestly kind of scary how often things they write actually end up happening in real life. It just shows how on-the-nose the show is!
The Hollywood Reporter noted a storyline in Season 5 where a character is likened to Jesus, a comparison that was recently mirrored when pastor Paula White made the same comparison about Donald Trump.
Kripke admitted it’s been unsettling to watch current events since they finished making the show almost a year ago. He described it as a depressing feeling, saying it’s never good when real-world events become more shocking than the outrageous things happening in their superhero series – even when that series involves something as bizarre as exploding penises.
Since we created the show, a lot has changed in the real world – things like internment camps and the deployment of federal troops to cities. Even smaller details feel different now, like the way we depict military leadership. For example, we have a character called General Mayhem…

When we were creating this season, we honestly felt like we were pushing the boundaries of what we usually do, going pretty far into science fiction or, at least, imaginative storytelling. It’s surprising how much of what we wrote is already happening in real life.
“It’s really upsetting. I don’t know what else to say about it.”
The first two episodes of The Boys Season 5 are now available on Prime Video, and the third episode will be released on April 15th. While you wait, you can find out what happens to Soldier Boy in the original comics, learn about Homelander’s backstory, and get the latest details on the upcoming series, Vought Rising.
