Jenna Ortega Eyed for Lead Role in Gremlins 3

Fans have been waiting a long time, but a third Gremlins movie is finally coming next year! Filming is scheduled to begin this summer, and Warner Bros. plans to release it in theaters on November 19, 2027.

While the studio hasn’t officially announced the cast for the new Gremlins movie, reports suggest Jenna Ortega, known for her role in Wednesday, is being considered for the lead. Industry insider Daniel Richtman says she’s been offered the part and is currently in talks. This information is still unconfirmed, but it does match Ortega’s earlier statement that she’d love to appear in a Gremlins film.

Jenna Ortega has quickly become known for her work on popular franchise revivals. She’s especially famous for starring as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix series, a fresh take on The Addams Family. She also played a key role in two Scream movies, cementing her place in the slasher film genre. Most recently, in 2024, she reunited with Tim Burton in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel to the classic 1988 film.

Last November, Warner Bros. announced that Gremlins 3 is officially happening, with a planned release in late 2027. While details are still limited, Steven Spielberg will return as an executive producer through his company, Amblin Entertainment. Chris Columbus, who wrote the original Gremlins, is co-writing the screenplay for the sequel with Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.

It’s Unknown if Zach Gilligan Returns in Gremlins 3

Zach Galligan played Billy Peltzer in the 1984 film, a teenager who receives a peculiar creature called a Mogwai from his father. When the Mogwai, named Gizmo, gets wet, it accidentally breaks the rules for its care, creating more Mogwai. These new creatures transform into dangerous, meat-eating Gremlins if fed after midnight. As the Gremlins cause havoc in town, Billy, with Gizmo’s assistance, tries to stop them.

The 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, again featured Zach Galligan as Billy, but it was much funnier than the first Gremlins movie. This time, the mischievous creatures wreak havoc in a New York City skyscraper, trying to take over the entire building. The sequel is known for its satirical humor and introduces Gremlins with wildly exaggerated personalities. Although it wasn’t initially as popular as the original, Gremlins 2 has since gained a dedicated following and become a cult favorite among fans.

As a huge fan of the original Gremlins, I was really excited when HBO Max released the Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai miniseries in 2023. It was a prequel, taking us way back in time – decades before the first movie – and it was so cool to see an animated version of Gizmo! They continued the story with a second season, called The Wild Batch, which came out in 2025, and I loved getting even more of that Gremlins universe.

Gremlins 3 will be released in movie theaters on Nov. 19, 2027.
