Occasionally, Studios actually takes fan feedback seriously. They’ve been consistently responsive to what fans want lately, adjusting their plans for projects based on those demands – a great example of this is the recent announcement of Marvel Zombies.
The series was incredibly impressive, and surprisingly violent for a Marvel Studios production – they rarely go this far with mature content. Don’t be put off by its middling score on Rotten Tomatoes (currently at 67%).
The Disney+ series Marvel Zombies was a big success, and Marvel has now confirmed it’s getting a second season. Production is already underway and moving quickly.
Brad Winderbaum, who leads Marvel’s TV and animation projects, shared that he watched an early version of the first episode of Marvel Zombies Season 2. He described it as “crazy” during a recent interview with The Escape Pod, adding that he doesn’t believe the information constitutes a spoiler.
Marvel Zombies Season 2 Is In Production … With An MCU Surprise
The Scarlet Witch has returned with an army of zombie Avengers, and if Ironheart can’t stop her after what she did to the Infinity Hulk and others to gain ultimate power, everything will be doomed.
According to Marvel executive Winderbaum, the upcoming Marvel Zombies project will introduce something completely new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he couldn’t share details, he promised it will be more than just a zombie story, and will feature a first-of-its-kind event for the MCU that the team is very enthusiastic about.
Before the Marvel Zombies series premieres on Disney+ in September 2025, the initial idea was to release it as four episodes, essentially dividing what was planned as a two-hour movie. That seemed like the right approach then, because it wasn’t clear how audiences would respond to a horror-themed animated Marvel show.
Deciding to move forward with a second season of the show was a good call, even though director Bryan Andrews says they never fully committed to ending Marvel Zombies after just four episodes.
When Will Season 2 of Marvel Zombies Arrive?
Based on Marvel’s current release schedule, the second season of Marvel Zombies likely won’t be available until 2027 or later.
He admitted they’d anticipated this outcome all along. The challenge was deciding how much hope to offer after the difficult parts of the story. Initially, they’d created a very understated ending, but feedback from editors while assembling the final cut suggested they needed to make the emotional impact stronger – to really hit the audience hard.
He explained that he was happy with how things ended, but he was careful to avoid making it feel forced or overly dramatic. He believes they struck the right balance, creating a somewhat somber conclusion while still hinting at what could happen next. He added that if the show gets enough viewers and positive feedback, they might be able to create another season.
Marvel Studios likely wrote the first four episodes of Marvel Zombies with an ending that could go either way – either a satisfying conclusion that allowed for further stories, or a way to easily continue the series if it proved popular with viewers.
We’ll all be ready to watch the second season of Marvel Zombies when it finally arrives on Disney+, and we’ll be patient – as patient as zombies, in fact!
