Okay, so Season 4 of Invincible finally brought in Grand Regent Thragg, played by Lee Pace, and it’s super obvious he’s the main villain Mark is going to have to take down to save everyone. But I was dying to know – does Thragg actually die? Luckily, if you’ve read the comics, you already know what happens! Warning: Spoilers from the comics ahead!

The Prime Video series is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the greatest superhero TV shows ever made. Its success is largely due to its faithful adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic books – and the fact that Kirkman himself is a key creative force behind the show.

While the animated series Invincible has sometimes made changes from the original comic books—even introducing a female version of the hero Tech Jacket—it generally stays true to the source material and often gives viewers a good idea of what’s coming up next.

You might be curious about whether Thragg survives Invincible Season 4. The comic books actually show what happens to him – unless the show’s creator, Kirkman, decides to alter the storyline.

Does Thragg die in Invincible Season 4?

Don’t expect Thragg to die in Invincible Season 4. He’s the primary villain throughout the entire comic book series and remains a threat until the very end. To give you an idea of where we are in the story, the ‘Invincible vs. Conquest 2’ arc covers approximately the middle of the comics, spanning from the end of issue #71 to the end of #72.

This leaves around 70 more issues to adapt for the Prime Video series, bringing it up to #144. It wouldn’t make sense to cast Lee Pace as the voice of Thragg only to eliminate his character so quickly.

Thragg will continue to be a major challenge for Mark, and we can expect some intense and violent confrontations between them down the line. Be warned: this contains spoilers for both the comics and future episodes!

Mark rips Thragg’s throat out while fighting on the sun in Invincible #140

You won’t believe this, but Mark defeats Thragg in a gruesome battle by tearing out his throat. The fight takes place on the sun, and the intense heat burns away all their flesh, leaving them unrecognizable. Despite being severely burned, Mark manages to overpower Thragg, biting a large piece out of his throat and causing him to bleed to death.

As Thragg gets closer to the Sun, his body begins to burn. It appears Mark will also perish, but Allen the Alien rescues him at the last second, saving them both from being destroyed by the heat.

Mark was seriously injured and needed time to heal, thankfully with assistance from the Coalition of Planets. Their advanced technology helped repair his wounds and speed up his recovery far beyond what natural healing could have achieved.

Following a brutal fight where Thragg tears out Omni-Man’s heart, it appears Omni-Man is killed. Surprisingly, he manages to hang on long enough for Mark to talk to him after Mark defeats Thragg, as seen in Invincible #141.

Just before his death, Omni-Man asks Mark to lead the new Viltrumite Empire, explaining that Mark helped him become a better person and can do the same for all the other half-Viltrumites – and by this point, there are many of them. After 141 issues of violence and conflict, Robert Kirkman managed to give Omni-Man a redemptive arc.

Interestingly, in the comic books at this stage, Mark and Eve’s daughter—who hasn’t been born yet in the TV series—is already a young child. This suggests the show is still several years away from the pivotal moment where Mark defeats Thragg on the sun.
