Marvel Studios has shared some exciting news about its upcoming *X-Men* movie, which will be part of Phase 7 after *Avengers: Secret Wars*. Fans have been requesting an *X-Men* film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while, and it’s finally happening! While characters from the previous *X-Men* films will appear in *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Avengers: Secret Wars*, a brand new team of Mutants will be introduced in the MCU following those movies and the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
Every Confirmed Detail About the MCU’s X-Men Movie
The Script is in the Works
Marvel Studios hasn’t started filming the new *X-Men* movie yet. Right now, they’re focused on the next *Avengers* films and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. However, the script is in progress, written by Michael Lesslie, and Jake Schreier is directing, with a significant role in shaping the story.
In July, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, announced that work on the script had begun. While it’s unclear how long the writing process will take, Lesslie and Schreier have ample time to perfect it, as the X-Men won’t officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe until Phase 7.
We’re thrilled to announce that Jake Schreier will be directing our upcoming ‘X-Men’ film. We feel incredibly fortunate to have him on board and are really excited to begin this project – the script is already in development.
Jake Schreier is Directing
Marvel Studios has confirmed Jake Schreier will direct the upcoming X-Men movie. He previously directed Thunderbolts*, which critics and fans generally liked, though it wasn’t a big success in theaters.
Marvel Studios was impressed with Schreier’s work on *Thunderbolts*, so they’re making sure the *X-Men* movie is done exceptionally well.
I was so excited to hear Schreier recently confirmed he’s joined the project! It means he’s really involved, not just in the overall planning, but actually writing and getting everything ready to film. And even better, he’s started to hint at some of the story we can expect – I can’t wait to learn more!
I’m not able to share details right now, but we’ve begun development on a new ‘X-Men’ project, which is incredibly exciting.
The director hinted that the upcoming *X-Men* movie will have both powerful emotional scenes and the exciting action Marvel is known for. Those who saw *Thunderbolts* already know the director is good at mixing touching moments with big action sequences, and he plans to bring that same style to *X-Men*.
Working on ‘[Thunderbolts*]’ has been a huge learning experience. I quickly realized how much more time goes into filming action sequences compared to scenes focused on character development and emotion. Even with a longer shooting schedule than usual, the action scenes filled it up fast. By the end of the project, we finally felt like we were getting the hang of balancing everything.
A Youth-Oriented Cast
Marvel Studios has announced that the new X-Men movie will star a younger group of actors. This suggests these characters and performers could appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe films for a long time.
As a big Marvel fan, I was really interested to hear Kevin Feige talk about their future plans. He mentioned they’re deliberately aiming for a younger audience with their next project – it’s going to be a movie with a really young cast and a story geared towards them, which I think is a smart move to keep things fresh.
Jake is a very talented and intelligent filmmaker. We really enjoyed working with him on ‘Thunderbolts*.’ He understands how to portray relationships between characters, and he particularly connects with younger audiences. While he’s younger than I am, that ability was key for ‘Thunderbolts*,’ and will be even more important for ‘X-Men.’ The ‘X-Men’ comics always focused on young people, and we want the movie to reflect that with a young cast and a story geared towards that demographic.
The movie is in the very early stages of production, so no actors have been cast yet, and it will probably be a while before any announcements are made. However, Marvel is already considering a few potential actors for the roles.
As a huge fan, I’ve been keeping up with all the casting buzz around the next *X-Men* movie, and honestly, there have been *so* many names thrown around! It’s impossible to know who will actually end up in the film, but I’m guessing we’ll probably see at least a few of those rumored actors make the cut. It’s always fun to speculate!
It Will Be Visually Different Than Previous X-Men Films
The X-Men are consistently popular, and their on-screen depictions have always stood out. But according to Jake Schreier, the upcoming movie in Phase 7 will be a significant departure from previous adaptations.
During a recent interview with Variety before the release of *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, writer Jason Schreier revealed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s take on the *X-Men* will be unlike any previous version of the mutant team.
“Yeah, I think that’s fair to say [‘X-Men’ will be] recognizably different from what came before.”
Similar to what Marvel Studios did with recent films like *The Fantastic Four*, Jason Schreier shared in a recent interview that the upcoming *X-Men* movie will heavily rely on its comic book source material, especially in terms of its overall scope and ambition.
It’s a rare and exciting chance to fully explore all the ideas within such a detailed and expansive story, and to do so on a scale that truly does it justice.
Will Build Towards a Saga Adapted from the Comics
Kevin Feige has revealed that the upcoming X-Men films will be based on a larger story arc from the comics. While the specific storyline is still unknown, it’s expected to build towards a major film featuring the X-Men, similar in scale to an Avengers movie.
As a huge fan, I was really excited to hear Feige explain that the first movie will be all about properly introducing every character and giving them the spotlight they deserve, while also laying the groundwork for this huge story arc they’ve got planned.
As a huge Marvel fan, I found it really interesting what the studio head said about the X-Men. They’re emphasizing how much history and depth the X-Men already *have* in the comics, and it sounds like they want to give the team some space to breathe and feel unique, while still making sure they’re part of the larger Marvel universe. It’s a delicate balance, but they seem aware of how important it is to honor the X-Men’s roots.
We’ve made a lot of progress, but with a franchise as rich as X-Men, there’s still a huge amount of potential to explore. The X-Men universe has so many interconnected storylines, and right now we’re deciding which one to focus on and develop for the first movie, while also making sure we properly introduce all the characters.
Impacted by Secret Wars
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m already getting excited about *Avengers: Secret Wars* – it’s shaping up to be their biggest film yet! And it sounds like the *X-Men* are going to be right in the middle of everything that happens, meaning their story will be seriously affected by the events of *Secret Wars*.
This isn’t just speculation. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently revealed they’re actively planning and developing content for Phases 8 and 9, in addition to the already-announced Phase 7.
The boss emphasized that the first part of the next story arc, Phase 7, will be significantly affected by the events in both *Secret Wars* and *Doomsday*.
We’re planning a three-part story arc, and we’re currently developing the next three phases. The first part of this new arc will be heavily influenced by the events of our current films and ‘Secret Wars’.
While it’s not official yet, the X-Men seem most likely to appear in Phase 7 of the MCU. Since an Avengers movie probably won’t come out during that phase, Marvel needs a big event to anchor it, and the X-Men would be a perfect fit.
X-Men Won’t Release Until 2028 at the Earliest
As we discussed earlier, Marvel Studios is already making detailed plans for its upcoming movies, including scheduling their release dates.
The highly anticipated film, *Avengers: Secret Wars*, is now scheduled for release in 2027, alongside two other Marvel Studios movies. While *X-Men* is also in the works, it’s not yet far enough along in production to meet a 2027 release date. Even if it were ready, Marvel likely wants to avoid releasing two massive films in the same year, so *X-Men* will probably come out later.
Interestingly, Marvel has already planned its movie releases through 2027, and none of those films are currently the *X-Men*. This means the *X-Men* movie won’t be released until 2028 at the soonest, and potentially even 2029. We’ll probably get a clearer picture of the timeline after the current Multiverse Saga concludes.
