During Square Enix’s presentation at Tokyo Game Show 2025 for *Dragon Quest VII Reimagined*, they revealed that not every story element or feature from previous versions will be present in this new release. However, the developers assured players they will make up for these omissions by adding new, more fitting stories and features.
Originally, the game included three extra story episodes set in Krage/Grondal, Litorud/El Ciclo, and Probina/Providence. Additionally, four optional activities – the Casino, Monster Park, World Ranking, and Immigrant Town – have been removed. Producer Takeshi Ichikawa explained that the team, after discussing with Yuji Horii, decided to cut these less essential parts to streamline the game and strengthen the core narrative.
To make up for the removed parts of the game, the team is adding new episodes, including one that shows the main character and Maribel as children. They’re also introducing a new Colosseum Arena, and keeping the Lucky Panel minigame, but with some changes from previous versions.
You can watch the recorded Japanese stream below, and important announcements start around the 22:30 mark. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will launch on February 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (through Steam and the Microsoft Store).
