Firefighters had to rescue a slightly overweight cat that wedged itself under a chair, apparently because it was afraid of going to the vet.
Taking your pet to the vet can be challenging. They often dislike leaving home, and once they realize where they’re going, they’ll resist going inside.
Once inside the vet’s office, pets often hide under furniture or anywhere they can feel safe. Luckily, the stressful part usually doesn’t last long, especially during a regular check-up.
A cat in Kansas really didn’t want to go to the vet! It hid so well – it actually got stuck under a recliner chair.
Cat gets itself stuck inside owner’s chair
A mischievous cat caused its owner to call both the Overland Park Police and fire department for assistance on March 21st.
They shared photos on Instagram of their cat getting stuck inside a reclining chair, explaining that the cat was trying to avoid a trip to the vet.
Overland Park Fire Department used a saw to rescue a cat, with help from OPPD Animal Control. The cat is doing well and was already scheduled for its yearly vet visit.

According to the New York Post, the fire department had to intervene, and in the process, the chair was damaged beyond repair, resulting in a higher repair cost for the owner.
Viewers did, however, note that it’s not a bad thing to get rid of the chair.
One person shared a heartbreaking experience: their mother’s cat tragically died after being crushed in a recliner. Because of this, they are firmly against having recliners – or letting anyone they live with have one – in their home. Another person echoed this sentiment, advising others with cats to avoid recliners or adjustable beds altogether.
A viral video of a fluffy cat isn’t the only heartwarming animal story right now. In China, seven dogs escaped after being stolen and walked over 10 miles to find their way back to their families.
