Taylor Sheridan’s newest series, The Madison, premieres on Paramount+ tomorrow, March 14th. Like his other shows, including Yellowstone, it features a stellar cast (Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell), stunning Montana scenery, and a dramatic family story—this time, about a family starting over after a loss. However, Paramount+ is releasing the show in a unique way. Instead of making all six episodes available immediately, or spreading them out over several weeks, the first season will be released in two parts: three episodes will debut, followed by the remaining three. And unlike most streaming shows that come out on Fridays or Sundays, The Madison will release its episodes on two consecutive Saturdays.
A representative from Paramount+ explained that the release schedule for The Madison was deliberate. Unlike Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone, this series is a more intimate story focusing on themes of grief, family, and reconciliation – as Sheridan described at the premiere. Releasing the episodes on Saturdays is meant to emphasize the show’s cinematic feel and mature themes, framing it as a special weekend event for viewers. While it’s not a radical change, it’s a welcome one. Anything that helps a show get noticed amidst the constant stream of new releases is a positive step.
The new CBS drama, Marshals, is off to a very strong start, attracting 20.6 million viewers within a week of its premiere, according to Nielsen data. This is the biggest debut for a new broadcast series since 2017’s Young Sheldon – and it didn’t benefit from being broadcast after a popular NFL game. About 9.5 million people watched the premiere on March 1st, with another 3.7 million catching up on DVR, and roughly 7.4 million streaming it on Paramount+ or the CBS website and app. Marshals was the most-watched current series across both traditional TV and streaming platforms during its first week, even outperforming the new episodes of Netflix’s Bridgerton. Given its success, CBS has already renewed the show for a second season.
